On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Scarborough Food Security Forum was hosted by the Hon. Michael Coteau, MP for Scarborough–Woburn, at Global Kingdom Ministries.

Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian, Vicar and Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Armenian Church, accompanied by Deacon Sarven Bicakci and Mrs. Maro Kochinyan of Barev Centre, joined fellow community leaders and frontline workers from food banks, healthcare organizations, schools, faith communities, businesses, and non-profit organizations for meaningful discussions on the growing challenge of food insecurity in Scarborough and the development of practical, community-based solutions.

We were pleased to share the vision of Holy Trinity Armenian Church and Barev Centre: that dignified access to nourishing food strengthens families, fosters hope, and brings communities closer together. Through the forum’s panel discussions and working groups, participants identified new opportunities for collaboration, including youth employment and volunteer initiatives, community gardens, and stronger connections between Canadian-Armenian families and local food resources.

A heartfelt thank you to MP Michael Coteau and Global Kingdom Ministries for hosting this important event, as well as to all the partners gathered around the table, including Daily Bread Food Bank, the Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities, and Malvern Family Resource Centre.

The insights and feedback gathered during the forum will contribute to broader conversations surrounding Canada's national food strategy, and we are proud that our community's voice was part of this important dialogue.
