ARCHON DELEGATION VISITS OTTAWA TO ADVANCE ISSUES REGARDING THE ECUMENICAL PATRIARCHATE

Αντιπροσωπεία Αρχόντων επισκέπτεται την Οττάβα για την προώθηση θεμάτων του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου

Οι Άρχοντες κ. Ευάγγελος Σωτηρόπουλος και κ. Θεόδωρος Παπαδάτος μετέβησαν στην πρωτεύουσα του Καναδά, την Οττάβα, στις 4 Ιουνίου 2026, όπου πραγματοποίησαν συναντήσεις με μέλη του Καναδικού Κοινοβουλίου με σκοπό την ενημέρωση και προώθηση ζητημάτων που αφορούν το Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο.

Στην Οττάβα τους συνάντησε και συμμετείχε στις επαφές ο Γερουσιαστής και Άρχων κ. Λεωνίδας Χουσάκος.

Δύο ενημερωτικές συναντήσεις διοργανώθηκαν από κοινού από τους Βουλευτές κ. Κώστα Μενεγάκη και κ. Vince Gasparro, προς τους οποίους εκφράζονται θερμές ευχαριστίες για την πρωτοβουλία και τη συμβολή τους.

Στις συναντήσεις συμμετείχαν εννέα μέλη του Κοινοβουλίου, τα οποία παρακολούθησαν εκτενή παρουσίαση από τον κ. Ευάγγελο Σωτηρόπουλο, πρόεδρο των Αρχόντων του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου στον Καναδά, σχετικά με την ιστορία και τη πολυσχιδή προσφορά του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου ως της Πρωτοθρόνου Εκκλησίας της Ορθοδοξίας, καθώς και η ιστορική διακονία του Παναγιωτάτου Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου.

Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά έγινε σε ζητήματα που αφορούν τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα και τη θρησκευτική ελευθερία του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου, ενώ συζητήθηκαν και δυνατότητες περαιτέρω συνεργασίας μεταξύ των ομοσπονδιακών νομοθετών του Καναδά και του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου.

Στους συμμετέχοντες κοινοβουλευτικούς προσφέρθηκε το ενημερωτικό δελτίο των Αρχόντων των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών (Χειμώνας 2026), το οποίο περιλαμβάνει εκτενή αναφορά στην Αποστολική Επίσκεψη της Α.Θ. Παναγιότητος στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και στην απονομή του διεθνούς κύρους Βραβείου Templeton, καθώς και οι εκπαιδευτικές κάρτες («Archon Educational Cards») που εκδόθηκαν από το Τάγμα του Αγ. Ανδρέου των Αρχόντων της Αμερικής.

Παράλληλα, οι Βουλευτές έλαβαν ως δώρο εικόνες του Αγίου Αποστόλου Βαρθολομαίου, Προστάτου Αγίου του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου και του Αγίου Αποστόλου Ανδρέου του Πρωτοκλήτου, Προστάτου Αγίου της Μητρός Εκκλησίας της Κωνσταντινουπόλεως. Οι δύο κύριοι διοργανωτές των συναντήσεων, οι Βουλευτές κ. Κώστας Μενεγάκης και κ. Vince Gasparro, τιμήθηκαν επιπροσθέτως με εξατομικευμένες εικόνες των προστατών Αγίων τους, του Αγ. Κωνσταντίνου του Μεγάλου και του Αγ. Βικεντίου της Λερίνης αντίστοιχα.

Όλες οι εικόνες φιλοτεχνήθηκαν ειδικά για την επίσκεψη αυτή από τις αδελφές της Ιεράς Μονής Αγίου Κοσμά του Αιτωλού στο Bolton του Οντάριο, προς τις οποίες εκφράζονται θερμές και ειλικρινείς ευχαριστίες.

Ο Βουλευτής κ. Yvan Baker, λόγω της ουκρανικής του καταγωγής, έλαβε επίσης ως δώρο το βιβλίο «Το Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο και η Αυτοκεφαλία της Ουκρανίας: Ιστορικές, Κανονικές και Ποιμαντικές Προσεγγίσεις», το οποίο εκδόθηκε από τους Άρχοντες των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών σε συνεργασία με τους Άρχοντες του Καναδά.

Σε δήλωσή του, ο Πρόεδρος των Αρχόντων του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου στον Καναδά κ. Ευάγγελος Σωτηρόπουλος ανέφερε: «Εκ μέρους των Αρχόντων Λεωνίδα Χουσάκου και Θεοδώρου Παπαδάτου, επιθυμώ να εκφράσω τις εγκάρδιες ευχαριστίες μας προς όλους τους Βουλευτές που συμμετείχαν στις συναντήσεις, ενημερώθηκαν για το Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο και τον Παναγιώτατο, και εξέφρασαν την επιθυμία τους να συνεχιστεί ο διάλογος και η συνεργασία στο μέλλον».

Πριν από τις συναντήσεις στο Κοινοβούλιο, ο κ. Ευάγγελος Σωτηρόπουλος, συνοδευόμενος από τον αιδεσ. π. Αλέξανδρο Μιχαλόπουλο, επί μακρόν ιερατ. προϊστάμενο του Ι. Ναού Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου στην Οττάβα, επισκέφθηκε τον κ. Μάρκο Τριπολιτάκη, Αναπληρωτή Επικεφαλής της Ελληνικής Πρεσβείας στον Καναδά, με τον οποίο είχε εποικοδομητική συζήτηση σχετικά με τις ελληνοκαναδικές σχέσεις και τον σημαντικό ρόλο του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου ως ηγέτη στον χώρο του Ανατολικού Ορθόδοξου Χριστιανισμού.

Archons Evagelos Sotiropoulos and Theodore Papadatos traveled to Canada’s capital on June 4, 2026, to meet with parliamentarians for discussions on the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

They were joined in Ottawa by Senator and Archon Leo Housakos.

Two briefing sessions were jointly organized by Members of Parliament Costas Menegakis and Vince Gasparro, who we acknowledge and extend our appreciation towards.

Nine parliamentarians participated in the sessions, which included a comprehensive presentation by Archon Sotiropoulos, the President of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Archons in Canada, detailing the history and works of the Patriarchate, as the First Throne of the Orthodox Church, as well as the historic ministry of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

Specific issues of concern regarding the human rights and religious freedom of the Patriarchate were discussed, together with possible areas of collaboration between federal lawmakers and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The parliamentarians were presented with the U.S. Archons Winter 2026 newsletter that covers the Apostolic Visit of His All-Holiness to the United States and reception of the prestigious Templeton Prize, as well as with “Archon Educational Cards” developed by the American Order of St. Andrew.

The parliamentarians were also gifted with icons of the Holy Apostle Bartholomew, Patron Saint of the Patriarch, and of the Holy Apostle Andrew the First-called, Patron Saint of the Mother Church of Constantinople. The two main organizers, MPs Menegakis and Gasparro, were gifted with customized icons of their Patron Saints, St. Constantine the Great and St. Vincent of Lerins, respectively.

All icons were specifically developed for this delegation visit by the Sisters of the St. Kosmas Aitolos Monastery in Bolton, whom we acknowledge with sincere appreciation.

MP Baker, who is of Ukrainian descent, was also gifted the book, “The Ecumenical Patriarchate and Ukraine Autocephaly: Historical, Canonical, and Pastoral Perspectives,” which was published by the U.S. Archons, in collaboration with the Archons in Canada.

“On behalf of Archons Housakos and Papadatos, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all parliamentarians who participated in the sessions to learn about the Patriarchate and His All-Holiness, along with their commitment to continue the collaboration and dialogue,” said Archon Sotiropoulos.

Before the sessions on Parliament Hill, Archon Sotiropoulos, together with the distinguished Rev. Fr. Alexander Michalopulos, long-time Parish Priest of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church in Ottawa, visited the Hon. Markos Tripolitakis, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Greece, for constructive dialogue on Canada-Greece relations and the importance of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as the leader of Eastern Christianity.

Το βιβλίο «Witnessing History» μεταφράστηκε στα ελληνικά με αφορμή τη συμπλήρωση 10 ετών από την Αγία και Μεγάλη Σύνοδο

Την Τετάρτη μετά την Πεντηκοστή, ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Σωτήριος υποδέχθηκε στα γραφεία της Ι.Αρχιεπισκοπής τον κ. Ευάγγελο Σωτηρόπουλο, Πρόεδρο των Αρχόντων του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου στον Καναδά.

Ο Άρχων κ. Σωτηρόπουλος προσέφερε στον Σεβασμιώτατο το βιβλίο του με τίτλο «Witnessing History: The Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church», το οποίο πρόσφατα μεταφράστηκε στην ελληνική γλώσσα με αφορμή τη συμπλήρωση δέκα ετών από τη σύγκληση της Αγίας και Μεγάλης Συνόδου, ενός ιστορικού γεγονότος που αποτελεί σημαντικό επίτευγμα τόσο για τη Μητέρα Εκκλησία της Κωνσταντινουπόλεως όσο και για την άξια διακονία της Α.Θ. Παναγιότητος του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου.

Το «Witnessing History» είναι ένα βιβλίο γραμμένο σε μορφή ημερολογίου, το οποίο μεταφέρει τον αναγνώστη στην ιστορική εκείνη εβδομάδα, όταν οι Προκαθήμενοι και οι Ιεράρχες της Μίας, Αγίας, Καθολικής και Αποστολικής Εκκλησίας συγκεντρώθηκαν στην Κρήτη για τις εργασίες της Αγίας και Μεγάλης Συνόδου.

Η μετάφραση του βιβλίου από την αγγλική στην ελληνική γλώσσα πραγματοποιήθηκε από την Ιερά Πατριαρχική και Σταυροπηγιακή Μονή Χρυσοπηγής Χανίων Κρήτης, προς την οποία εκφράζονται θερμές ευχαριστίες για τη συμβολή και τη συνεργασία της. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι η Καθηγουμένη της Μονής, Γερόντισσα Θεοξένη, συμμετείχε ως επίσημη αντιπρόσωπος του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου στην Αγία και Μεγάλη Σύνοδο.

«Συγχαίρω την Ιερά Μονή Χρυσοπηγής, τον Άρχοντα κ. Ευάγγελο Σωτηρόπουλο, καθώς και την κα Γεωργία Κόντου από το Γραφείο της Ιεράς Αρχιεπισκοπής, η οποία συνέβαλε στην έκδοση του βιβλίου, για την ολοκλήρωση αυτού του σημαντικού έργου, το οποίο εμπλουτίζει τη βιβλιογραφία και την ιστορική καταγραφή της Αγίας και Μεγάλης Συνόδου. “Witnessing History” Book Translated into Greek to Commemorate 10-Year Anniversary of the Holy and Great Council

On the Wedneday after Pentecost, His Eminence Archbishop Sotirios welcomed Evagelos Sotiropoulos, President of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Archons in Canada, to the Archdiocese.

Archon Sotiropoulos presented his “Witnessing History: The Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church” book, which was recently translated into Greek to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Council – a landmark achievement for both the Mother Church of Constantinople and the worthy ministry of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

“Witnessing History” is a diary-styled book that takes readers inside that historic week when primates and hierarchs of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church gathered on the island of Crete.

The book was translated from English into Greek by the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Chrysopigi (Chania, Crete), whom we sincerely acknowledge and express our deep gratitude for their efforts and collaboration. It should be noted that the Monastery’s Abbess, Mother Theoxeni, was an official delegate of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the Holy and Great Council.

“Congratulations to the Monastery of Chrysopigi, Archon Sotiropoulos, as well as Ms. Georgia Kontou from the Office of the Archdiocese who assisted with the book’s publication, for developing this important work that adds to the literature and history of the Holy and Great Council, the official documents of which I encourage all faithful to read and contemplate,” remarked Archbishop Sotirios.

PRAYERS FOR DEPARTED SOULS

O Almighty God and our Father, fount of time and eternity, who by Thy power hast set a term of our life on earth, and through Thine only-begotten Son dost grant unto us, through resurrection, immortal life and a kingdom which cannot be moved, do Thou remember Thy servant N. who hath fallen asleep in the hope of resurrection unto life eternal, we beseech Thee, hear and have mercy.

O Father, holy and good, for as by the offence of one man, our forefather, sin entered into the world, and death by sin, so may we be inheritors of eternal life by the righteousness of Thine all-perfect Son, and do Thou give rest to the soul of Thy servant N. and preserve it unto the blessed life that is with Thee, we beseech Thee, hear and have mercy.
