“Remembering Pat Trudeau”
Speaker: Rev. Carly Murlor

We are all in shock and grieving with the sudden passing of our beloved Patricia Trudeau. Former minister of this congregation and a friend to us all, she will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and love are also with Wilburn and Donovan in this time of incredible grief.

This Sunday we will have a circle of remembrance, where we will gather to share stories and memories of Pat. Through our tears, we will honour the beauty, insight, wisdom, laughter, and joy she brought to our lives.

Note: The previously scheduled Fire Communion Service will happen on January 18th.

Welcome all. Whoever you are we welcome you. Wherever you come from, we welcome you. Whomever you love, we welcome you.

As we mark the Winter Solstice, Stephanie Noble’s poem, "In Celebration of the Winter Solstice," invites us to embrace the gifts of darkness. It reminds us that darkness is not to be feared but celebrated—a source of mystery, renewal, and promise. In the quiet of these longest nights, we find rest, reflection, and the fertile ground where the seeds of our inner light take root.

Let us honor this time of stillness and renewal, allowing the darkness to hold us as we prepare for the return of the light.

May this Solstice bring you peace and joy in the richness of the present moment. 🌙✨

“Beyond Political Polarization”
Speaker: Rev. Carly Murlor
Service Leader: Diane Zafred
Technical Assistance: Wilburn Hayden

We live in times of intensely increasing political turmoil and polarization. Given our commitment to both democracy and the inherent worth and dignity of every person, how do we engage respectfully and work to build the world we long for?

Rev. Carly has served as minister at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Durham, minister for social justice at the First Unitarian Congregation of Hamilton, and executive director of the Welcome Inn Community Centre in Hamilton. She has a MDiv and MSW from Laurier, and her current work involves therapeutic movement to help people keep up or return to activities they love. She lives with her family — husband Curtis and sons Darragh and Shale — on the shores of Lake Erie.

“Our UU Heritage”
Speaker: Rev. Pat Trudeau
Service Leader: Diane Zafred
Technical Assistance: Wilburn Hayden

Heritage refers to practices or characteristics that are passed down through the years, from one generation to the next. But Heritage has a deeper meaning than just being something that is passed down from previous generations of family. The term also refers to community and the values we hold.
Today, Rev. Pat Trudeau will focus on our UU heritage and what it means in our lives beyond our personal family histories.

Rev. Patricia Trudeau, MSW, MEd, MDiv, Contract Minister at Unitarian Congregation of Niagara (St. Catharines); Unicamp Minister in Resident; former contract Minister at NUUC and UFNWT. UFNWT is her home congregation. Rev. Trudeau has been a UU minister since 2012 and has spoken at Unitarians congregations in Canada and USA. With her husband, Wilburn Hayden and son Donovan, they are engaged in anti-Black racism work with Unitarians in Canada and USA.

“Why Love Is Love?”
Speaker: Rev. Chris Emmanuel

PLEASE REMEMBER TO MOVE YOUR CLOCKS BACK 1 HOUR

When there is love there is no question

Love is Love is more than a statement that encourages universal love and acceptance in all forms, regardless of the gender, sexual orientation, or identity of the people involved. When applied to daily living it can become a deep spiritual practice. It beckons us to go deep within to dissolve the blocks that keep our hearts from opening to love wholly. Let’s reflect on active practices to expand our capacity to love.

Rev. Ernie Christopher Emmanuel (Chris) is an Ordained Interfaith Minister, a member of NUUC congregation, and a successful artist/writer/speaker. He is the author of four books in the self-development and inspirational genre. Chris has appeared on television programs in Washington, DC. Minnesota, Belize and Toronto, Canada, for his Art and Books.

“Breathe in, Breathe out “
Speaker: Rev. Carly Murlor
Service Leader: Melanie Walters
Technical Assistance: Wilburn Hayden

Our meditative song goes: When I breathe in, I breathe in peace, when I breathe out, I breathe out love. Breathe is a fundamental but often-taken-for-granted part of our lives from birth to death. We’ll reflect on — and practice — breathing as an act of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

Welcome all. Whoever you are we welcome you. Wherever you come from, we welcome you. Whomever you love, we welcome you.

In the book “Old Turtle,” beings of all kinds start arguing about the nature of God, each one seeing God in his or her own image. Eventually, Old Turtle intervenes. Since “Old Turtle” was written in 1992, it has touched children and adults alike with its message of peace, interconnection of all beings, and honouring diversity. We’ll hear the story and then explore its meaning in more depth, listening for the ways we can deepen our connections and commitments to one another and the earth.
