Luke, a church for the people in our local community and beyond. We are delighted that you may choose to worship with us and offer you this opportunity to become better acquainted with us. We hope that by sharing our story and our life at St. St. Luke's is a parish of the Diocese of Toronto and the Anglican Church of Canada, we are a welcoming community of people of such diverse cultures and ages.
As a community we practice our Christian faith through meaningful worship, continued learning, selfless service and outreach to our local community and the world around us. We look forward to welcoming you warmly to our parish and supporting you throughout your faith journey! Luke's has a beautiful group of parishioners who are very active within our church and throughout our community. Luke's has a "Said" Eucharist at 9am on Sunday mornings and a "Sung" Eucharist at 10:30am on Sunday mornings. We are also wheelchair accessible for those who may require that. The following are a few of the groups/ministries that we have currently taking place at our church:
Men's Group
-The men of the parish meet on the first Saturday of each month (except July and August) for breakfast. They fellowship and plan events, help with fundraising and assist at events. They meet at 9am at The O'Connor Station at 158 O'Connor Drive. Altar Guild
-Each week a small group of parishioners take care of the Altar at the church to set it up for upcoming services as well as ensuring the items used for the service such as the linens, candles and torches and flowers are prepared and ready to be used. Igniting Our Faith
-This group creates a wide variety of learning opportunities to the whole family of St. Luke. They host study sessions, video presentations and discussions for those looking to learn and delve deeper into their faith. Lectionary Readers
-We have a group of readers who do readings during our Sunday morning service, usually there are two readings that are done from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible and The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language in addition to some lively dramas based on scriptures which are performed for the congregation. Music
-There is a lovely choir and organist/pianist who work very hard while leading the congregation during our services . They also prepare weekly anthems which enrich our worship time. Servers
-The servers help in beginning and ending our Sunday service by walking in the choir and pastor team and leading them out each week while assisting the pastor with various tasks during the service. Welcomers
-There is a great team to greet you as you visit St. Luke's for our service on Sunday morning. They welcome you warmly, answer any questions you have and give you a bulletin which guides you through the service. Christmas Caring
-We work with Touchstone youth home and donate things like gift cards to those who are less fortunate to brighten up their Christmas and hope to continue doing this amazing work annually. Outreach Committee
-We hold annual walk-a-thons, Christmas lunches as well as a soup and sandwich lunch in order to raise money for sponsoring families in places like Africa and the Philippines through Plan Canada. We are currently investigating what causes to support in the coming year. Pastoral Ministry/Prayer Ministry/Keeping in Touch
-There is a great prayer ministry at St. Luke's who respond to prayer requests and address prayer needs during our service. WE send cards out to those who are unwell and unable to attend service.
-Praying Together meets once a month on a Monday evening (except in December). They pray for God to help in difficult situations around the world and in our own country, home and church. Tuesday Group:
-This group meets every Tuesday between 9am-2pm in the church hall and they work on making quilts, crafts and other nifty gifty goodies usually sold at our annual Holly Berry Fair in November. Fundraising Team
-This team meets every month or so depending on the schedule of events too plan and coordinate upcoming ideas and events within the church. We have events such as the Parking Lot Sale, Flower Sale, Steel Pan Convert, Holly Berry Fair and an Art Fair. We are always looking for new members to bring any suggestions to the group that we could plan in order to help support our parish community. Holly Berry Fair
-One of our most successful fundraising events takes place once a year in November where we have different people setup tables and bring in their goodies whether its baked goods, crafts and other things to sell to the community. Santa and Mrs. Clause also make an appearance which is fun for the children who attend.
