The Basilians

The Basilians “Teach me goodness, discipline, and knowledge” - Psalm 119 The Congregation of St.

Basil is a vibrant community of priests, students for the priesthood, and lay associates. Ours is an active, apostolic community of simple vows, seeking the glory of God, especially in the works of education and evangelization. We celebrate every form of priestly activity compatible with the common life and we welcome you to share our prayer to know the love and mercy of God.

We were blessed to join Dr. Sinda Vanderpool on this year’s University of St. Thomas President’s Trip to 🇮🇹. With Archbishop +J. Michael Miller, CSB, leading our spiritual journey, we walked in the footsteps of St. Thomas Aquinas—visiting Roccasecca, his birthplace, the great monastery of Monte Cassino, where he lived, and the Cistercian Abbey of Fossanova, where he died. ✝️

We were also privileged to celebrate at the tomb of St. Peter beneath the main altar of St. Peter’s Basilica in City, and to conclude our pilgrimage with a papal audience with Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter’s Square. 🙏

to Fr. John Ward **(1941–2009, ordained 1970)** 📚🙏 From Rochester to Windsor, Indiana, and Detroit, he spent nearly four decades quietly shaping young lives in Basilian schools. Known for his simplicity, humility, and steady care for students in need, John never sought attention—yet his impact earned him both “Teacher of the Year” and a place in the Detroit Catholic League Hall of Fame ✨🏫
