to “Joe” Wey (1910–2000, ordained 1936) 📜📚 A scholar of Latin drama and medieval manuscripts, he spent decades helping students and researchers unlock the treasures of the past. As Superior General during one of the most turbulent periods in Basilian history, Joe led with remarkable calm, patience, and concern for every individual. Away from the classroom and administration, he enjoyed fishing, baseball, and the occasional spirited disagreement with an umpire ⚾🎣🙏

to “Ken” Decker (1938–2015, ordained 1967) 🔨⛪ From physics classrooms in Indiana and Houston to parish ministry, formation work, and eventually serving as Superior General, Ken answered every call with quiet humility. A skilled carpenter, he spent a year in rural Nigeria crafting church furnishings by hand—a ministry of beauty he carried throughout his life. Whether leading the Congregation or serving a local parish, Ken was known for his integrity, kindness, and unwavering care for others. 🙏✨

We were blessed to join Dr. Sinda Vanderpool on this year’s University of St. Thomas President’s Trip to 🇮🇹. With Archbishop +J. Michael Miller, CSB, leading our spiritual journey, we walked in the footsteps of St. Thomas Aquinas—visiting Roccasecca, his birthplace, the great monastery of Monte Cassino, where he lived, and the Cistercian Abbey of Fossanova, where he died. ✝️

We were also privileged to celebrate at the tomb of St. Peter beneath the main altar of St. Peter’s Basilica in City, and to conclude our pilgrimage with a papal audience with Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter’s Square. 🙏
