Offence may explain part of your story, but it does not have the authority to write the ending.

In this week’s message, Pastor Donavan Joseph reminded us that followers of Jesus overcome evil with good. We must bring hidden wounds into God’s light, remove bitterness at its root, and surrender our desire for personal revenge.

Five steps toward freedom:

Name the offence honestly.
Examine what it is producing in your heart.
Choose forgiveness.
Pursue peace wisely and safely.
Replace bitterness with blessing.

Forgiveness does not deny the pain, remove accountability or automatically restore trust. It releases the offence to God and refuses to let yesterday’s wound control tomorrow.

Prayer: “God of peace, guard my heart from bitterness. Heal every hidden wound and give me wisdom for every difficult relationship. Help me live as one who is free.”

Luke 17:1-4 NLT

This week, we learned that forgiveness does not declare the offender innocent. It places the case into the hands of God, the perfect and righteous Judge.

We can refuse bitterness without denying the pain. We can forgive without immediately restoring trust. We can pursue peace while maintaining wise and necessary boundaries.

Today, pray honestly:

'God, I do not excuse what happened or deny my pain. Because You have forgiven me, help me release this offence into Your hands. Guard my heart and lead me forward in freedom.'

Biblical forgiveness is neither denial nor dishonest peacekeeping.

Scripture calls us to forgive, pursue peace, and release personal vengeance. It also leaves room for truthful correction, accountability, and wise boundaries.

Forgiveness can be offered from your heart. Trust must be rebuilt through consistent behaviour. Reconciliation requires the participation of both people. Safety must never be sacrificed.

What would it look like to stop giving yesterday's wound permission to poison today's relationships?

You do not need to name the person or explain the situation publicly.

Your next step might be honest prayer, a wise boundary, a truthful conversation, seeking safe support, or surrendering your desire for revenge to God.

Complete this sentence privately:

'God, today I choose to place __________ into Your hands.'

The original incident may be over, but is its inflammation still affecting your present relationships?

You do not have to deny what happened. Bring the wound honestly before God and ask Him to help you release the offence.

Forgiveness may begin as a decision before your emotions have fully caught up.
