Ramadan preparation tip #1: Make a conscious decision to start distancing yourself from Shaytaan. How? Here is a Qur'anic remedy:
وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
..if an evil whisper from Shaytaan tries to turn you away (O Muhammad) (from doing good, etc.), then seek refuge in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.
{Surah Fussilat, Ayah 36}
If the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) -- the one whose qareen (قرين) accepted Islam -- was ordered to seek Allah's protection, what about us? Truly, we are more in need of Allah's help and protection than the Prophet.
The two Attributes of Allah at the end of this ayah establish the fact that Allah knows when shayateen whisper into the ears of believing men and women. And in response to the whispers, if the believers seek Allah's help, He hears their du'a of and comes to the rescue. Surely He is All-Hearing and All-Knowing.
Task for today: recite one of the following du'as whenever an evil thought comes to mind or whenever shaytaan is causing distraction in Salah.
1. أعوذ بكلمات الله التامات من شر ما خلق
2. أعوذ بكلمات الله التامة من كل شيطانان الرجيم
