Background before diving into the book of Job - did you know?

1. What does upright and blameless mean?
Upright (righteous) and Blameless (no cause) but this doesn't mean sinless, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). The reason Job was upright is that he feared God and shunned evil (Job 1:1; Psa 103:17). The reason Job was blameless is because he covered his sins with sacrifices (Job 1:5). Animal sacrifices don’t take away sin, they only cover it (Heb. 10:4; Lev. 17:11).

2. What time period was Job?
During the time period between Jacob and Moses. 1) Eliphaz, Job’s friend, was a Temanite - Teman was from the city of Edom (Ezek. 25:13). Edom is where the descendants of Esau resided (Gen. 25:13) therefore, the time period was after Esau was born. The name Eliphaz (Job 2:11), is the same name as the eldest son of Esau (Gen. 36:10-11), it could potentially be the same person. 2) Job died at the age of ~180-200years: Job lived 140years after God restored what was lost (Job 42:16). Job’s first set of children had their own houses therefore they were adults and Job would have been 40-60 years old. This meant he lived to about the same age as Isaac. People who lived to this age existed before Moses. 3) The reason it is before Moses is because he didn’t have a book to reference (Job 31:35). The written Torah came through Moses.

3. What do Christians have that Job didn’t?
A book explaining what was good and evil, the law of God (Job 31:35; 2 Tim. 3:16). The blood of Yeshua to wash away his sins (Rev. 1:5; 7:14). Sealed with Holy Spirit to help him overcome sin and live holy (Eph. 1:13, John 7:39). The power of Holy Spirit to cast out demons and lay hands on the sick to be healed (Acts 1:8; Mark 16:17-18).

To tithe or not to tithe that is the question.

Some Christians say - We only need to give with a cheerful heart, as 2 Cor. 9:5-12 indicates. It is not a prescriptive manner like Tithing?

In response, this is the common response of disobedient Christians. They also say, “Sometimes I give 20% other times less, all my money belongs to the Lord.” But let’s be honest, when they average it out they give way less than 10% and trying to justify their disobedience. And when they say they are tithing they are lying as they are just giving not a tenth.

It is true that some in the early Church in Jerusalem gave all their possessions to the church. But this wasn’t in the law, but something some believers wanted to do because they believed the end was near.

In scripture, there are 3 types of giving that believers confuse with the Tithe:
1) First Fruit (first portion of the first increase), this is not the Tithe.

2) Voluntary giving to the poor, this is not the Tithe.

3) Offerings, this is not the Tithe and this is the amount that one purposes to give. This is what 2 Cor. 9:5-12 is referring to. Just like the offerings were given to the Priests and for the Temple structure, it was a freewill offering and it is not a prescribed amount like the Tithe, it is a voluntary amount. It too needed to be done with a cheerful heart (Exo. 35:22). This is given to the traveling preachers such as 2 Cor. 9:5-12 refers to.

2 Cor. 9:5-12 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God. Exo. 35:22 And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto the Lord.

Can one truly celebrate Christ with Pagan things - like the pagan tree? But I don't worship it. What is the difference between decorating a tree like the pagans do and decorating a Buddha in the home? Both have pagan origins for centuries. Why are the presents under the tree, every time you pick up a present you bow down, why the balls on the tree, why the lights (it didn't start with Luther), what is the star at the top--- really. What was the star on the tree during the time of Babylon.

Jeremiah states Jeremiah 10:2-5, "Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree...

BYZANTINE TEXT

Many consider the Roman Emperor Constantine I (reigned 306–337) to be the first Byzantine Emperor. As might be expected, the Byzantine texts place greater emphasis on the deity of Christ than the Alexandrian. The support for the Byzantine readings from the earlier fragments suggests that the Byzantine texts better reflect the original texts based on their high level of consistency with each other. The earliest of the Church Fathers to witness to a Byzantine text-type in their NT quotations is John Chrysostom (349 – 407AD).
Byzantine Text has their origin in Europe and Asia Minor. It was found in places like Antioch, Rome, Corinth, Ephesus and the fragments in these areas are of the BT type.

The Byzantine text-type has by far the largest number of surviving manuscripts from 350 – 1500 AD. Thus, the BT is also called the Majority Text. There is a difference between the Majority Text (All 5300 Byzantine Text) and the Majority Text compiled in the 20th Century by Hodges-Farstad (~500 BT Text).

The Received Text (1512) was primarily based on the reliable Byzantine Text of that day. The Byzantine Text was originally in unicials (upper case letters in Koine Greek) and then continued from the 9th century in minuscule (lower case letters in Koine Greek). One of the earliest manuscripts we have today of the Byzantine Text is said to be Codex Alexandrinus (5th Century) with only the Gospels in Byzantine the rest of the NT in Alexandrian Text-type. Another is Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus (5th Century).
Examples of the Byzantine Text.

Name Century Content
Codex Alexandrinus 5th Gospels
Codex Ephraemi 5th Gospels
Codex Washingtonianus 5th Matt 1-28; Luke 8:13–24:53
Codex Guelferbytanus B 5th Luke–John
Uncial 061 5th 1 Tim 3:15-16; 4:1-3; 6:2-8
Codex Basilensis 8th Gospels
Codex Boreelianus 9th Gospels
Codex Seidelianus I 9th Gospels
Codex Seidelianus II 9th Gospels
Codex Angelicus 9th Acts, CE, Pauline Epistles
Codex Mosquensis II 9th Gospels
Codex Macedoniensis 9th Gospels
Codex Koridethi 9th Gospels (except Mark)
Codex Vaticanus 354 949 Gospels
Minuscule 1241 12th only Acts
Minuscule 1424 9th/10th NT (except Mark)

Some recent scholars were persuaded that the best guide to the original Greek text is the close consensus of the majority of Greek manuscripts. This meant taking the old manuscripts and in places where the majority of texts agreed, that word, or verse or phrase was included. That was the idea! Hodges and Farstad (1982) compiled the so called “Majority Text”. It was based on the work of Hermann von Soden (early 20th Century). Where he used about 500 manuscripts (some quote 414) this is far less than 5300+ manuscripts and definitely not a majority. Therefore, when someone says majority, it is less than 10% of the manuscripts.

In addition, the way they agreed on which text stays or ignored is dubious, and similar to Westcott-Hort method of the Critical Text. Even though, it isn’t perfect it is closer to the Received Text (RT) than the Alexandrian text (Critical Text - CT), except for the Book of Revelation.

Some stats on disagreements from the RT:

Hodges-Farstad (MT) 1,005
Tregelles (CT) 3,095
Nestle-Aland (CT) 3,323
Tischendorf (CT) 3,498
Westcott-Hort (CT) 3,618

Today when some refers to the Majority Text, they are either referring to the work done by Hodges & Farstad (1982) OR Robinson & Pierpont (1991). It is not the entirety of the Byzantine Text. The English translation of Hodges & Farstad MT is the EMTV. The English translation (EMTV) italicizes words that the English translation adds for readability. The English translation of Robinson & Pierpont MT is the MLV. There are about 400 differences between these two “Majority Text” – most of them John 7 & 8 (of the Adulteress) and the Book of Revelation. Here are a few: Matthew 26:11; Luke 7:6; 14:24; John 8:7, 9-10; Rom. 12:2; Col. 1:14; Heb. 10:17; Rev. 2:7; 4:4;7;11; 5:8; 11:6; 13:18, etc. H & F closer matches the RT e.g. Rev. 13:1 “I” vs “he” stood – Hodges & Farstad vs. Robinson & Pierpont. However, in later version of the MLV (Robinson & Pierpont) was updates and the 2018 version has “I stood”.

Halloween is evil and all associations with it. One who dresses up in a butterfly outfit to participate in this practice is an accomplice to evil practice. They are the same as one who celebrates or pours water at a ouija party. Both will feel the consequences. nakedlife.org/uploads/docs/History_-_Halloween.pdf
