Toronto United Mennonite Church If that sounds like what you're looking for, you are welcome to come and check us out!

We value following Jesus's example in daily life, sharing our lives in a vibrant community, and working together for peace and wholeness in ourselves and our world. TUMC is a Christian community in the Mennonite-Anabaptist “peace church” tradition. We aspire to be a family of faith that welcomes people with diverse backgrounds and stories, worshipping together and supporting one another, while following Christ’s example in working for peace and justice in our urban context.

It's Ride Your Bike to Church week! TUMC will mark Earth Day this Sunday (April 26) with a blessing for those who cycle or use alternative means of travel and otherwise express care in practical ways for God's gifts to us on this beautiful planet. Join us at 11 a.m. for this annual event, followed by a potluck and shower for two couples looking forward to marrying soon! All are welcome, bike or no bike! (Faith Formation classes for kids age 3 through middle school, Sunday Brew adult discussion and Lectio Divina contemplative prayer all start at 10 a.m.)

A Blue Christmas invitation from our co-pastor Peter Haresnape: We are surrounded by reasons to celebrate, and reasons to mourn. Don't feel like you need to hide your sadness and struggle at any TUMC service! This tangle of realities is exactly where Christ is born. You are warmly invited to our Blue Christmas service, Wednesday Dec 17 at 1774 Queen E. The Caring Team has been preparing a place for you to sing, pray, sit quietly... whatever you need. Come at 5:30pm for a simple meal, with the service beginning at 6:30 pm.

One of the delights of the Advent season at TUMC is the tradition of turning over much of the third Sunday of Advent to our children and youth. They're hard at work this year preparing a play to be presented to the congregation this Sunday (Dec. 14) and later in the day to residents at St. Clair O'Connor Community. Come share in the joy at 11 a.m.! Guests and neighbours are always welcome at TUMC, 1774 Queen East.

We're looking forward to a wonderful Advent season at TUMC on the theme of "Be Amazed!", starting with this Sunday (Nov. 30). Our Advent I worship service (11 a.m.) will include Communion. In the afternoon, kids and teens will be practising for their upcoming pageant and decorating the tree, in time for the freewheeling, much-beloved annual Carol Sing at 6:30 p.m. Friends and neighbours of all generations are warmly welcomed to launch the festive season by joining us to sing carols old and new, culminating with Handel's Hallelujah Chorus — and homemade goodies. No experience required, but come ready to ring some bells!

Ready for fall, or still in flip-flops mode? Come as you are this week (Sept. 7) for Gathering Sunday, our annual celebration of back-to-everything with a return to 10 a.m. Faith Formation classes (ages 3 through high school). Worship begins at 11 a.m. and will include Communion. Stay for coffee and a finger-foods potluck after the service. (Regulars, don't forget to be kind to newcomers and forgetful acquaintances: pick up your name tag from the box in the lobby!) Whether you’re looking for a church home, wrestling with spiritual questions, or simply curious about Christian faith in the Mennonite/Anabaptist tradition, there’s a place for you at TUMC!

Join us Good Friday (April 18) for one of two gatherings. In the morning (10:30 a.m.) our intergenerational service will feature lots of movement, story telling, a craft, a reflection on the Last Supper, and a circuit through stations of the cross, telling the story of the crucifixion of Jesus in a way suited to young ears. In the evening (7 p.m.), we join our sister congregation, Iglesia Menonite Nueva Vida, for a solemn service of reflection and Communion. Guests and newcomers are always welcome as we mark this commemoration of an event central to Christian faith.

TUMC’s twist on the old Palm Sunday tradition of waving palm branches to remember Jesus’s jubilant welcome in Jerusalem is to use branches of cedar – a native tree with sacred connotations among our Indigenous brothers and sisters, as well as an eco-friendly alternative. This season of Lent, we’ve been reflecting on the thought-provoking theme of “Christ Collides” — with our biases, our condemnation, our priorities, our selfishess, our blinders, our expectations. Join us for worship (and cedar branches!) this Sunday at 11 a.m. Come early, at 10 a.m., for Faith Formation classes for kids and teens, or Sunday Brew, conversation over coffee and tea, in the second floor meeting room, on the topic of intersections between faith and work. Newcomers are always warmly welcomed at TUMC! (For info on our Good Friday (morning intergenerational, evening Communion) and Easter services, check out our homepage at tumc.ca!)

We stand with our American brothers and sisters in upholding humane treatment of newcomers and strangers, and everyone's freedom to worship without fear. Thank you, Mennonite Church USA and many friends for your public stance for justice and mercy! Lev. 19:33-35: "When immigrants live in your land with you, you must not cheat them. Any immigrant who lives with you must be treated as if they were one of your citizens. You must love them as yourself, because you were immigrants in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God."
