Transformative Justice Program Coordinator Karen Ridd and report co-author Lindsay Hunt were at the Centre for Research into the Processes, Outcomes and Impacts of Incarceration conference in St Catherine's ON to talk about their Cui Bono report. Their session caused a major buzz at the conference!

Their report explores who profits financially from Canada's federal prisons. You can find an Executive Summary, an infographic, and the full report on our website.

In this week's episode Lisa recalls her first moments at a Healing Lodge. It was all so different from prison. No fences or cells. A house where she lived with other women, each with her own room.

But more than anything, it was the EMOTIONAL safety that felt so different and refreshing. Staff asked her how she was doing. Elders accepted her and where there for her. Every conversation was in some way about healing, not about trying to make her feel worse. For the first time since she was a teen, Lisa felt safe enough to be herself.

This is a proven and cost-effective alternative to expensive prisons that don't help people to reform but often just make matters worse.

Each week we're sharing a new video of Lisa tells us about her honest experiences in prison compared with an Indigenous Healing Lodge.

Politicians have dodged debate, but Canadians oppose the war industry.

Not everyone has the same comfort with protest actions, so this might be the one for you if you're looking for a faithful and grounded way to show that you support justice and peace.

The rights recognized in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples “constitute the minimum standards for the survival, dignity and well-being of the Indigenous Peoples of the world.”

There's a lot of misinformation and fear-mongering out there. How much do you know about the UN Declaration? You can find out more on our website!

Lisa explains a simple fact from her experience with incarceration: treating people like humans changes EVERYTHING. She didn't experience just how big of a difference this makes until she arrived at an Indigenous Healing Lodge.

No handcuffs, staff in street clothes instead of uniforms, being asked about her preferences and inputs - these seemingly small acts helped her reclaim her sense of dignity. This isn't "soft on crime" - it's actually more effective at impacting people!

Each week we're sharing a new short of Lisa sharing about her honest experiences in prison compared with being in an Indigenous Healing Lodge.

Our staff were at a variety of Half-Yearly Quaker gatherings this past long weekend. Mel Burns gave a hands-on workshop about art as protest, highlighting how the simple act of choosing slow creation is a form of resistance in the world we find ourselves in.

Mel brought art supplies, and encouraged children and adults alike to make protest signs for us to bring to our upcoming Stop CANSEC action.

While making these signs participants learned to sing songs from the "Singing Resistance" song book.
