A Pilgrimage of Prayer at Our Lady of Guadalupe

Today I had the opportunity to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. It is truly an honor and a privilege to be here. I have come not only as a pilgrim, but also in prayer for all those entrusted to my care, especially my parishioners.

I place each of you and your families under the loving protection of our Blessed Mother, asking her to guide us and watch over us always—especially all mothers.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.

At the general audience on May 27, Pope Leo XIV urged priests to respect the “norms of the liturgy” and not to make changes to the Mass “on their own initiative,” in order to avoid confusing the faithful.

“I encourage all priests to respect the texts and norms of the liturgy with openness, humility, trust in God’s greatness, and with sincere fidelity to ecclesial communion,” the pope said in remarks in St. Peter's Square.

The Second Vatican Council “affirmed that legitimate progress in the liturgy must also preserve sound tradition and that certain elements of the liturgy can never change because they are divinely instituted,” he said.

Leo’s catechesis on Wednesday continued his reflections on the magisterium of the Second Vatican Council, focusing on the constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium, promulgated by St. Paul VI on Dec. 4, 1963. It is one of the most important documents to emerge from the council, since it transformed the way Catholics celebrate the Mass.

A Grace-Filled Visit from the Newman Centre Pilgrimage

Today we had the joy and privilege of welcoming the Newman Centre Catholic Mission of Toronto, the official Catholic campus ministry of the University of Toronto under the Archdiocese.

As part of their walking pilgrimage through various churches in the city, including Saint Agnes and Holy Family, they visited our parish to pray and spend time in quiet devotion. In a special way, they came to venerate the relic of Saint Francis of Assisi, entrusting their intentions and journey to his intercession.

We give thanks to God for their witness of faith, and for the spirit of prayer and pilgrimage they brought into our community.
