THE PARABLE OF TEN VIRGINS

Day One: “The Kingdom of Heaven Is Like…”

Text: Matthew 25:1-13

“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.” – Matthew 25:1

Introduction

In this powerful parable, our LORD JESUS CHRIST gives a sobering picture of the last days—of watchfulness, readiness, and the consequences of spiritual negligence. This is not merely a story about wedding traditions; it is a divine revelation of the Kingdom of GOD and the necessity of preparedness. The ten virgins represent those who profess to await the return of CHRIST, yet only half were truly ready.

Let us take a careful look at the meanings behind these symbols, drawing from the Old and New Testament, so we can rightly divide the Word of Truth and prepare ourselves to be among the wise.

1. The Kingdom of Heaven Is a Prepared Place for a Prepared People

The parable begins with “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins…” JESUS often used parables to illustrate the nature of GOD’s Kingdom. The phrase “Then shall…” connects this parable with the events of the end times described in Matthew 24. In essence, this parable is a continuation of JESUS’ end-time discourse.

The “ten virgins” all represent believers who have been set apart (virginity symbolizing purity or professed holiness), but not all were wise. This tells us that outward appearance or confession is not sufficient—inner substance and readiness are what CHRIST seeks.

Example from Scripture:
• The people of Israel were called out of Egypt as a nation unto GOD (Exodus 19:6), yet many perished in the wilderness because, though they had been delivered, they were not prepared in heart (Hebrews 3:17-19).
• Similarly, the church at Sardis had a reputation of being alive, but was spiritually dead (Revelation 3:1-3).

2. Lamps Without Oil: A Dangerous Assumption

All ten virgins took lamps, but only five took oil with them. The lamp symbolizes the outward profession, ministry, or testimony. Oil represents the HOLY SPIRIT, GOD’s grace, and the personal relationship with HIM that fuels our light.

Having a lamp without oil is like having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof (2 Timothy 3:5). Many today carry the Bible, attend church, and even preach or sing in choirs, yet lack the indwelling presence of the HOLY SPIRIT. Such are like Saul, who was once anointed but lost the SPIRIT (1 Samuel 16:14), or the foolish Galatians who began in the SPIRIT but sought to be perfected in the flesh (Galatians 3:3).

3. Spiritual Slumber in the Last Days

Verse 5 says, “While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.” The delay in the bridegroom’s coming tested the endurance and preparation of the virgins. This is a picture of spiritual drowsiness and the tendency of many to lose fervency while waiting for CHRIST’s return.

Supporting Scripture:
• Romans 13:11 — “It is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”
• Revelation 3:2 — “Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die…”

Though all slept, only the wise had reserves of oil. This means that trials and delays will come, but those who have a deep, abiding relationship with GOD will remain spiritually prepared.

4. A Midnight Cry: A Sudden Awakening

The cry at midnight (verse 6) signifies the suddenness of CHRIST’s return, just as Paul described in 1 Thessalonians 5:2—“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the LORD so cometh as a thief in the night.”

No one will have time to borrow righteousness or oil. The midnight hour is a dividing hour, a moment of revelation, and a season of irreversible consequence. This is why JESUS warned, “Watch therefore…” (Matthew 25:13).

Conclusion

The parable warns us not to rely solely on appearances or religious acts. It challenges us to go deeper—to carry oil, to be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, and to abide in CHRIST daily. For when the trumpet shall sound, there will be no second chance to buy what we neglected to carry.

Three Prophetic Blessings
1. I prophesy that you shall not be counted among the foolish in the day of HIS appearing, in the NAME of JESUS.
2. May the OIL of the HOLY SPIRIT overflow in your vessel, and may your lamp never go out, in the NAME of JESUS.
3. You shall hear the voice of the BRIDEGROOM and enter with HIM into everlasting joy, in the NAME of JESUS.

The Consequences of Hypocrisy

Message:

JESUS sharply criticized the Pharisees for their hypocrisy, particularly in their acts of charity. In Matthew 23:5, He denounces their actions, saying, “Everything they do is done for people to see.” This rebuke is a powerful reminder that GOD values the intention behind our actions far more than the action itself.

The Pharisees’ desire to appear righteous led them to neglect the true essence of God’s law—justice, mercy, and faithfulness (Matthew 23:23). They were meticulous about minor rituals but ignored the weightier matters of the law. Their giving was tainted by self-interest rather than driven by compassion for the needy.

JESUS provides a stark contrast to this approach in the story of the widow’s mite (Mark 12:41-44). The widow, though poor, gave all she had out of her poverty. Her gift, small in monetary value but enormous in spiritual value, was praised by Jesus as the greatest contribution to the treasury because it was given wholeheartedly and selflessly.

Prophetic Blessings:

1. May the Spirit of the LORD guide you to give not just from your abundance, but also from your heart, making your offerings pleasing to GOD in JESUS name.
2. May you be shielded from the praise of men and be embraced by the commendation of GOD as you live a life of sincere and humble service in JESUS name.
3. May your acts of charity serve as a beacon of God’s love and compassion, leading many to righteousness and peace in the kingdom of GOD in JESUS name.

THE HEART OF GIVING

In the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 6, JESUS teaches us about the purity of motive required when giving to the needy. He says, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:1). This passage lays the foundational attitude Christians must hold towards giving—it must be done in secret, not for the applause of men, but for the eyes of GOD alone.

This principle of discreet benevolence runs counter to the practices often seen in society, where acts of ‘charity’ are sometimes performed for recognition or social status. In contrast, the biblical approach to giving is one of humility and secrecy, ensuring that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing (Matthew 6:3).

Reflecting on the Old Testament, we see this value echoed in the life of King David, who exhibited his devotion quietly at times, expressing his faith through private worship and humble offerings before GOD (Psalm 27:4). Similarly, the act of Boaz providing for Ruth in a discreet manner further illustrates the genuine benevolence prescribed in Scripture (Ruth 2:15-16).

Prophetic Blessings:

1. May the LORD bless your discreet acts of kindness, multiplying your peace and joy as you serve Him without seeking worldly recognition in JESUS name
2. May GOD open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing so great you will not have room enough to store it as you give generously and secretly in JESUS name.
3. May the Father of lights, who sees what is done in secret, reward you openly in ways that exceed your expectations and fulfill your deepest needs in JESUS Name.

THE AGAPE LOVE

Message: Agape Love - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Dear brethren,

Today, let us explore the pinnacle of love: agape love. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, we find a comprehensive description of this divine love: "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."

Agape love is radically different from the world's understanding of love. It is selfless, seeking the well-being of others above our own desires. It is patient, even in the face of provocation. It is kind, responding to hostility with compassion. It is unwavering, enduring trials and hardships.

JESUS demonstrated this agape love throughout His earthly ministry, ultimately laying down His life for our salvation (John 15:13). As disciples of CHRIST, we are called to imitate His love, allowing it to flow through us to a broken and hurting world.

Prophetic Blessings
1. May you be filled with the agape love of GOD, enabling you to love others selflessly in JESUS Name.
2. May patience and kindness characterize your interactions with others, reflecting God's love in JESUS Name.
3. May your life be a testimony of agape love, inspiring others to seek the source of this transformative love in JESUS name.

HAPPY NEW MONTH CHILDREN OF ZION

*Living a Holy Life*: Reflecting the Holiness of God in 1 Peter 1:15, the apostle Peter calls believers to live a life of holiness, echoing the timeless commandment of GOD: "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do." This injunction carries profound significance, rooted in the very character of GOD Himself.

From the Old Testament to the New, the call to holiness resounds throughout Scripture. Leviticus 19:2 declares, "Be holy because I, the LORD your GOD, am holy." This divine mandate underscores the sacredness of God's nature and the expectation for His people to mirror His holiness in their lives. As followers of CHRIST, we are set apart for a holy purpose, sanctified by the blood of JESUS Christ.
Ephesians 1:4 tells us that GOD chose us in CHRIST"before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight." This divine election reflects God's sovereign will to redeem and transform us into vessels of His glory.
The pursuit of holiness is not merely an external adherence to rules and rituals but a transformation of the heart. Romans 12:1 urges us to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to GOD—our spiritual act of worship.
This entails a complete surrender of our lives to the leading of the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to conform us to the image of Christ.Furthermore, holiness involves a separation from the ways of the world and a consecration unto God. 2 Corinthians 6:17 instructs us, "Therefore, 'Come out from them and be separate, says the LORD. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.'" This divine separation requires a steadfast commitment to righteousness and a deliberate avoidance of sin.
Despite the challenges and temptations we face in this fallen world, we are called to persevere in our pursuit of holiness. Hebrews 12:14 exhorts us, "Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord." Our unwavering dedication to holiness not only glorifies GOD but also testifies to the transforming power of His grace in our lives. In obedience to God's command to be holy, we receive three prophetic blessings:Divine Favor: As we walk in holiness, GOD bestows upon us His favor and blessings. Psalm 84:11 declares, "For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless." Our commitment to holiness opens the floodgates of heaven, pouring out blessings beyond measure.Spiritual Strength: Holiness empowers us to withstand the schemes of the enemy and to walk in victory. Isaiah 40:31 assures us, "But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." As we abide in Christ and abide in His Word, we are fortified with supernatural strength to overcome every obstacle.Eternal Glory: Ultimately, the pursuit of holiness leads to the glorious promise of eternal life in the presence of GOD.

Revelation 21:27 affirms, "Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life." Our obedience to God's call to holiness ensures our inheritance of the kingdom of heaven, where we will dwell with Him for all eternity.

Therefore, let us heed the exhortation of 1 Peter 1:15 and strive to live holy lives, reflecting the holiness of our GOD.
May we embrace the prophetic blessings of divine favor, spiritual strength, and eternal glory as we walk in obedience to His word in JESUS name.
