From "Hewers of the Forests, Fishers of the Lakes: The History of Tobermory and St. Edmund's Township": "When complete, the little church contained seats made of wide rough boards and tiny windows which let in a dim light. Coal oil lamps were used to brighten the place. The floor and outside walls were made of wooden boards and the inside walls were plastered. A box stove was placed at the back of the church to provide heat for the building. It appears that only the bare necessities were provided as there was no bell or steeple. . ."

"A Fireside Conversation About Things That Matter", Wed August 19th, 7.pm. @ The Gap - end of Hwy 6.

This Fireside Conversation aims to open up, and help us to occupy together, some common, public space.

Some 200 years ago, Alexis de Tocqueville suggested that our democracy needs to be supported by certain strong ‘habits of the heart’, ways of being and behaving in human community.
Humans have been doing this around the hearth for centuries. Fires are us!
Here, we try to create a safe environment in which to learn and practice habits of the heart that will strengthen us, our communities and our public life.

All are invited!

This Sunday, as part of our Sacred Space worship series, Tobermory United welcomes Charlie Bell (saxophone, clarinet) and Jack McFadden (double bass) as guest musicians. Charlie directed the Stardust Big Band for 25 years. Jack played for the National Ballet and in the pit band for the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. They are lifelong and respected musicians, and we can't wait to hear them in the sweet acoustic space of Tobermory United. August 9, 10:30 a.m.
