We had this message from Helen Houghland whose husband David was a student pastor at the church in 1967 and David sang at Carol and Dave's wedding because he couldnt perform marriages at that time. They lived in the house (parsonage) beside the church and yesterday Helen stopped by on her way home from an event in Simcoe. David passed away several years ago and Helen has remarried and living near Lake Huron. This is the message I received form Helen:
I stopped early this morn to take pic of Springford Baptist Church & the "parsonage where we lived 50 years ago. the large tree in the yard is very special. my 4 year old daughter had many good swings. we also had a split rail fence..took it with us. the house looks nice with all the bushes.
She also commented to me that it was "very emotional and surreal."🌲💓
I hope she can drop back again to visit the church and us soon.

150 Years of the Baptist Women’s Movement: The Mission Circle Movement

Where faith, friendship, and mission grew together

For generations, mission circles were the heart of the Baptist women’s movement.

In churches across Ontario and Quebec, women gathered each month to pray, learn about mission work, and support those serving around the world. They read letters from missionaries, shared stories of the work, and brought small offerings to support it.

Most women in those years had little or no income of their own. Yet they found creative ways to give—saving pennies from household budgets, using one less egg in a cake recipe, or setting aside small amounts through careful spending. What seemed like tiny sacrifices, offered faithfully, added up to something remarkable.

By the mid-20th century, mission circles had spread widely. In 1956, the 75th anniversary of the Baptist women’s organization, 433 circles were active across Ontario and Quebec, bringing together more than 10,000 women. Together they raised $129,000 for mission work—the equivalent of roughly $1.5 million today.

But mission circles were about much more than fundraising. Within these gatherings, women found friendship, encouragement, and spiritual growth. Young girls were welcomed and mentored, often encountering the message of Christ for the first time.

One such girl was Barbara Simmonds of Uxbridge, who first attended a church girls’ group after a school friend invited her. Decades later, the friendships she formed there remain among the most meaningful in her life.

From small monthly gatherings grew a community that shaped generations of women in faith and mission.

Our pastor will be on holidays for the next 2 weeks returning to the pulpit on Sept 13. If you have a need for pastoral care please contact one of our deacons and we will direct you to the person covering for our pastor during his time away.
We wish Pastor Craig and Beth Anne a time of rest and relaxation during their time away.
Jake Rivers will be ministering to us on August 30 and Sept 6. We look forward to having him back again.
