“That I may not merely be called a Christian, but really be found to be one.”
— Saint Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Romans, 3

On 17 October, we remember Saint Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr.

He wrote these words as a prisoner on his journey to Rome, where he would face death for his faith in Christ. Even then, his concern was that his life should bear witness to the faith he professed.

His words leave us with something to ponder: if someone knew us only by our actions, what would they discover about our faith?

We may not face an arena. But we are given daily opportunities to remain faithful: to forgive when it is difficult, to speak honestly when it costs us, and to make time for God when other things compete for our attention.

As we pray the Rosary, let us ask for the grace to live what we profess—in the quiet choices as well as the difficult ones.

Saint Ignatius of Antioch, pray for us.
