Such a lovely day at the Peace's camp yesterday - thank you John Peace and Robin Peace for allowing your space to be such a blessing to our community. The weather and scenery and fellowship and food was just perfect!

Over the years, I’ve enjoyed listening to Grassrooters talk passionately about soil and trees and gardens and food and local farming. I’ve been part of conversations about “place” — this city, these neighbours, this ecosystem surrounding us and how we might care for it, enjoy it and participate in it without destroying it. More often than not, somewhere in the midst of these convos, Wendell Berry’s name will come up as having written a poem or essay about said topics.

Which usually leaves me thinking, “Man, I really gotta read this guy one day.”

passed away on Monday at the age of 92. The faith of many in our community has been profoundly impacted by this man, whose writing helped us see the sacredness of place, community, creation and the ordinary work of loving our neighbours well. His voice will be deeply missed, but the wisdom he gave us will keep working on us for a long time. RIP, sir.

Berry has been an important figure for many in the Grassroots community over the years.
What's your favourite Berry poem/novel/writing piece?

Wendell Berry, the revered poet, novelist, and Kentucky farmer, died on Monday, August 31. He was 92.

Berry was a towering literary figure, authoring more than 50 books of poetry, fiction, and collected essays. His published works shared his heart for farming and rural communities—life rooted in real people and places.

How do we handle the Imprecatory Psalms that call on God to smite our enemies in light of Matt. 5:43-45? What about so much of the entirety of the OT that actually SHOWS God smiting our enemies?

This is one of the hardest tensions Christians need to think through in order to take the scriptures seriously and also hold the conviction that God has always looked like the enemy-forgiving Jesus of the cross.
