"What happened after the Last Supper? After the Last Supper Christ went out first to the Garden of Gethsemane and then to Calvary. And he had said to us in the gospel: 'I send you like sheep among the wolves.' He is sending us from this holy table in the power of the Spirit, united to him in body, soul, and spirit, into the world to be his presence, to be a living message, but beyond and above all to be his real presence -- as real as the presence of God in the bread and wine. Are we aware of this? Do we come to Church for *this* reason, or to be served, to be given, to find a place of shelter? One speaks so much of the gathered community. Yes, the gathered community, the community that gathers in order to receive from God a commission. But the Christian body is primarily and first of all a scattered community of people who, though scattered, remain one. When the priest breaks the bread before Communion, he says: 'The Lamb of God is broken and distributed, which being ever broken, never is divided.' This is what the Church is and should be."

A blessed Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos! Χρόνια πολλά to all celebrating their namedaya today!

Troparion - Tone 1
In giving birth you preserved your virginity,
In falling asleep you did not forsake the world, O Theotokos. You were translated to life, O Mother of Life, and by your prayers, you deliver our souls from death.

Kontakion - Tone 2
Neither the tomb, nor death could hold the Theotokos, who is constant in prayer and our firm hope in her intercessions. For being the Mother of Life, she was translated to life by the One who dwelt in her virginal womb.

Archbishop Nikitas at Enthronement of New Archbishop of Canada

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has appointed His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain as Patriarchal Representative at the enthronement of His Eminence Archbishop Apostolos, the newly elected Archbishop of Canada.

His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas will preside at the enthronement, which will take place on Saturday, 19 September 2026, at 11.00 am, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Toronto, Ontario. Archbishop Nikitas will be accompanied by the Revd Archdeacon Dr George Tsourous and the Revd Presbyter Pavlos Lambrou.

His Eminence Archbishop Apostolos, formerly Metropolitan of New Jersey, was unanimously elected Archbishop of Canada by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on 22 July 2026.

The Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain welcomes the Patriarchal appointment and extends congratulations to His Eminence Archbishop Apostolos ahead of the formal commencement of the new archiepiscopal tenure in Canada.
