We also hold community, family-friendly events on a regular basis. Feel free to contact us to inquire about special requests. Anglican worship in Ivy began in the 1840’s with the original settlers. The current chancel windows were in the original building. Kevin’s, a sister church in Angus, closed and the parishioners joined Christ Church in Ivy. When St. Jude’s in Thornton also closed in the mid-

1980’s, the congregation, stained glass windows and name came to Ivy – thus the hyphenated name of Christ Church-St. Jude’s. The structure of the building and the form of worship has undergone many changes, but the people and clergy have always been diligent and faithful. Their many talents contribute to an active Anglican church for Ivy and surrounding area. Our church has a long history and a bright future. We invite you to join us at anytime.

Easter Sunday is the most joyful day of the Christian year! Early in the morning, women went to Jesus’ tomb and found it empty. Angels told them, “He is not here. He has risen!” Jesus had conquered death, just as He said He would. This is the heart of our faith: that Christ is alive, and through Him, we are given new life and eternal hope. Anglicans celebrate with great joy, singing "Alleluia!" once again, and proclaiming the resurrection in word and sacrament.

📖 “He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you… that the Son of Man must be crucified and on the third day rise again.” ~ Luke 24:6-7

Holy Saturday is a day of silence, stillness and waiting. After Jesus' death, His body lay in the tomb. The disciples were heartbroken, confused and afraid. It seemed like hope had died with Him. But even in this quiet day, God was at work. Jesus had promised that death would not be the end, and soon that promise would be fulfilled.

📖 “Then they took the body of Jesus and wrapped it with spices in linen cloths…and laid it in a new tomb.” ~ John 19:40-42

Good Friday is the most solemn day of Holy Week. Jesus is put on trial, beaten, mocked and sentenced to death by crucifixion. He carries His cross to the hill of Calvary and is nailed to it between two criminals. At around three in the afternoon, He dies. It is called "Good" because, through His suffering and death, Jesus offered Himself for the sins of the world. His sacrifice opened the way to forgiveness, grace and eternal life. Today in the readings, prayers and silence, we remember the weight of the cross.

📖 “When Jesus had received the wine, he said, ‘It is finished.’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” ~ John 19:30

On Maundy Thursday, we remember the night Jesus shared His final meal (the Last Supper) with His disciples. During the meal, He broke bread and shared wine, saying they were His body and blood, given for us. He also washed His disciples' feet, showing that true leadership is about humble service. The word "Maundy" comes from the Latin ‘mandatum’, meaning "commandment," because Jesus gave a new commandment that night: to love one another as He has loved us. Later that evening, Jesus was betrayed and arrested in the garden of Gethsemane.

📖 “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” ~ John 13:34

Wednesday is sometimes called Spy Wednesday because it marks the day Judas Iscariot made a secret plan to betray Jesus. He went to the religious leaders and agreed to hand Jesus over for thirty pieces of silver. It’s a quiet day in the Bible, but full of tension, reminding us that even among Jesus’ closest followers, betrayal was possible. It’s a day to reflect on our own faithfulness and the ways we may turn away from Jesus in our own lives.

📖 “What will you give me if I betray him to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver.” ~ Matthew 26:15

Tuesday is a day full of teaching. Jesus spent the day in the temple, telling parables and answering tough questions from religious leaders who were trying to trap Him. He warned against hypocrisy and spoke about the coming Kingdom of God, urging people to stay faithful and alert. One of His most important messages was that true greatness comes through humility and service to others.

📖 “The greatest among you will be your servant. All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.” ~ Matthew 23:11-12

On Monday, Jesus returned to the temple in Jerusalem and found that it was filled with people buying and selling. In a rare moment of righteous anger, He overturned the tables and drove them out, saying the temple should be a house of prayer. This powerful act showed His authority and His desire for pure worship. It was also a sign that His mission was to cleanse hearts and restore people to true relationship with God.

📖 “My house shall be a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers.” ~ Luke 19:46
