There are moments when holiness feels impossibly far away. We may find ourselves surrounded by confusion, painful thoughts, spiritual numbness, or a darkness we do not know how to escape.

Rebbe Nachman teaches that in those moments, we can ask:

“Ayeh? Where is the place of His glory?”

This is not a question of rejection. It is a cry of longing.

And that longing is itself holy.

When we search for G-d from a place of distance, the descent is no longer only a descent. The very act of turning, asking, and yearning becomes the beginning of an ascent.

No sincere cry from the depths is ever wasted. Even when all we can offer is one broken sentence—or one word—it still reaches Him.

Ayeh?

You may have noticed I’ve been a little quiet lately…

Between work, preparing for the chagim, maximizing Elul, getting ready for Uman, and taking some intentional time offline, life has been full.

But there’s a much bigger reason.

IY”H, I’m making Aliyah and moving to Israel. 🇮🇱

This has been on my heart for a long time, and it finally feels like the right time to go home.

It also begins a new chapter for In Breslov Burns A Fire. 🔥

I’ll be creating and running my side of IBBAF from Eretz Yisrael, with more Breslov Torah, videos, conversations, and opportunities to share the teachings of Rebbe Nachman from the Holy Land.

And yes… you’re coming with me.

Thank you for your patience during this transition. I can’t wait to share what comes next.

There are moments when our failures become impossible to ignore.

We feel exposed. Disappointed in ourselves. Maybe even pushed away from Hashem.

Rabbi Nachman teaches us to look at those moments differently.

R’ Nosson explains that sometimes the experience of distance itself is meant to awaken a deeper desire to return. He gives the parable of a king who ordered a gett to be written for his wife. Before it was finished, they reconciled, and instead of divorcing her, he ordered that her ketubah be doubled.

What looked like the end became the beginning of an even deeper connection.

Sometimes that uncomfortable voice reminding you that something needs to change is actually the voice calling you back.

Back to who you are.

Back to your relationship with Hashem.

Back home.

And maybe that’s part of the avodah of Elul: learning to hear the invitation hidden inside the discomfort.

Teshuvah in Elul begins with one radical truth: you are allowed to start again.

Rebbe Nachman teaches that one of the greatest obstacles to spiritual growth is feeling “old” in our mistakes—believing we have failed too many times to truly change.

But the past does not own this moment.

To begin again means approaching today as though you were born today. As though this were the first time you were given the opportunity to pray, learn Torah, perform a mitzvah, repair a relationship, or come closer to G-d.

Maybe you have already tried.

Maybe you started and stopped.

Maybe this is your tenth beginning—or your thousandth.

Begin anyway.

The voice of despair says, “You have been here before.”
The voice of teshuvah says, “But you have never been given this exact moment before.”

Save this as your Elul reminder: a new beginning does not require a perfect plan. It requires one honest decision made now.

Uman Rosh Hashanah is getting closer. Are you ready? 🔥

The flight gets booked. The bags come out. The packing list starts growing.

Most people have heard the famous Elul acronym:

אני לדודי ודודי לי
“I am my Beloved’s, and my Beloved is mine.”

But here’s another one that captures something essential about Elul through the lens of Breslov:

אסור
להתייאש
וצריך
להתחזק

אסור להתייאש וצריך להתחזק

It is forbidden to despair, and one must strengthen oneself.

Because Elul is not supposed to be a month of looking at everything you did wrong and deciding you’re too far gone.

It’s the opposite.

Rebbe Nachman teaches:

אין שום יאוש בעולם כלל

There is absolutely no despair in the world.

No matter where you are.
No matter how many times you’ve fallen.
No matter how many times you promised yourself you would change and ended up back in the same place.

There is still a path back.

That is the avodah of Elul.

Find one good point.
Take one step.
Speak to Hashem.
Start again.

You don’t have to enter Rosh Hashanah as the person you wish you already were.

You just have to refuse to give up on becoming them.

Elul teaches us that the road back to Hashem is not always a straight one.

Sometimes there are delays.
Obstacles.
Closed doors.
Moments when we wonder why things are taking so long.

Rebbe Nachman teaches that *menios*, obstacles, can actually increase our desire for the very thing we’re trying to reach. The obstacle itself can become part of the journey.

Elul is compared to finding a path through the sea. From where you’re standing, there may be no road at all. But Hashem can create a path in places where you could never have made one yourself.

Sometimes what feels like being held back is preparing something deeper.

A stronger longing.
A different path.
A new beginning you couldn’t have planned.

We see the delay.

Hashem sees where it’s leading.

Maybe part of the avodah of Elul is learning to keep moving toward Him, even when we don’t understand the route.

Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come through the smallest acts.

We often imagine teshuvah as one dramatic moment of transformation. Rebbe Nachman and Reb Nosson teach something different: lasting change is built through simple, consistent practices.

✨ Stay silent instead of responding with anger.
✨ Search for one genuine good point within yourself.
✨ Open a Tehillim and let the words soften your heart.

These aren’t just good habits—they’re pathways back to G-d.

The yetzer hara wants us to believe we are defined by our failures. But Breslov teaches us to begin with the good that already exists within us. When we recognize even one spark of holiness, we find the strength to pray, to sing, and to start again.

This Elul, don’t wait to become perfect before turning toward G-d.

Start with one good point.

Start with one chapter of Tehillim.

Elul has a rhythm.

In Breslov, the month carries extra tefillah, extra learning, extra longing, and extra preparation for Rosh Hashanah.

Breslover Chassidim enter Elul with practices that awaken the soul:

Yom Kippur Katan.
Tikkunei Zohar.
Staying later in shul or the Beis Medrash.
L’Dovid Hashem Ori.
The shofar after Shacharis.
Extra Tehillim.
One true avodah the heart can carry.

The beauty of Elul is that it becomes personal.

One steady practice.
One extra tefillah.
One honest hitbodedus.
One real kabbalah.

Small and true can open great light.
