And the LORD will be king over all the earth; in that day the LORD will be one, and His name one. ... 16 Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations…will go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Sukkot. - Zechariah 14:9,16

And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven…and I heard a loud voice…"Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, - Revelation 21:2-3

Tasty Tidbit # 3

Remain (and Produce Blueberries)

I was reminded again lately of how crucial it is for me to stay connected to Jesus. John 15:1-17 compares staying connected to Jesus with a branch staying connected to the vine. In verse 5 Jesus says “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

The word 'remain' in this verse can be used to communicate not leaving, continuing to live in a place, or not giving up but enduring. Continuing in close, dependent relationship with Jesus is so important!

This summer I had the joy of being in the bush and berry picking. As I thought about John 15, blueberry bushes came to mind. It made me consider the importance of the blueberry ‘branches’ being connected to the ‘vine’. They get so much from staying connected: nourishment, stability, purpose, and the ability to do what they are designed for – produce fruit. When they remain connected the branches display the greatness of the vine.

In the same way, when I stay close to Jesus, depending on Him, walking with Him, I am nourished, have stability, purpose, and my life bears fruit that will last (Jn 15:16). Blueberry branches wither and die if they don’t continue being connected to their source. I too wither when I don’t stay connected to my Source. Apart from Him my life quits producing good, lasting fruit; I lack stability, nourishment and identity.

The choice to remain in Him, to trust Him in all circumstances and live in obedience and dependence, is critical. It makes me think…

What does it look like to remain, or abide, in Jesus?

Where am I trying to produce what I need instead of resting in the Vine?

Tasty Tidbit #2

The Love the Father has lavished on us.

1 John 3:1
The definition of biblical “lavished” is the excessive, extravagent, unrestrained way God bestows (honours) His Love upon us. He pours His Love into us like a waterfall.

1 John 3:2
God is making a reflection of Himself in us; like a mirror. He wants us to reflect Him in our lives.

1 John 4:16-19
We Love Him because He first Loved us. There is no fear in Love. Perfect Love casts out fear. His love is made complete in us and therefore this gives us confidence on the day of judgment. (The return of Christ).

Mark 12:30-31
"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. V31 And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself' . There is no other commandment greater than these." There is no other faith that requires its people to love their neighbor as themselves.

Our Lord Jesus Christ teaches us it is very important to love Him and our neighbor. Why? because, Jeremiah 31:3 quotes the Lord, “I have loved you with an everlasting love”. This love is eternal. Abide in His love.

The All Nations team has decided to try and post a teaching once a month that can be used as a study and discussion tool for in-person gatherings or online conversation.
The first article in this series was posted on July 23rd and is titled 'Why is there SUFFERING?'. These articles in the future will be called Tasty Tidbits (Taste and see that the Lord is good... Ps 34:8).
If there are topics that you would like us to write about feel free to suggest them and we'll see what we can do!

Why is there SUFFERING?

Simply put - sin. One man's disobedience brought sin into the world. Another man's obedience brought righteousness (Romans 5:19). So why does God allow ongoing suffering?

God's ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:6-12, especially 8, 9). God's desire has always been to have a people (1 Peter 2:9-10). We are God's own special people, a chosen people who didn't receive mercy in the past, but now do.

In Job chapters 40 and 41 God admonishes Job at the end of his suffering. God owes us no explanations. God's gifts and callings, as well as his actions, are not ours to judge. They are done freely and with purpose. In most cases we only attribute sin to man, but in truth, when sin entered the world it encompassed all creation (Romans 8:22).

God dealt with man and sin in the time of Noah (Genesis chapters 7-9).
Sin and all it's suffering will finally be dealt with at the end of the ages.
"But God shows undeserved kindness to everyone. That's why he appointed Christ Jesus to choose you to share in His eternal glory. You will suffer for a while, but God will make you complete; steady, strong, and firm." 1 Peter 5:10 CEV

God has been, and is, working through suffering.

Discussion questions:
Where is your hope found?
Why is there suffering?
In what ways can suffering be positive?
How should this affect my life?
