EASTER SUNDAY MESSAGE

Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! ✝️

Today we rejoice in the glorious truth that our Lord Jesus Christ has conquered death and risen in victory. The stone has been rolled away, the tomb is empty, and hope is alive forevermore!

Easter is the fulfillment of God’s promise—a reminder that no darkness can overcome His light, no sorrow can outlast His joy, and no burden is greater than His redeeming love. Through the resurrection, we are given new life, new hope, and a renewed purpose in Him.

Let this day fill your heart with joy and your spirit with peace. Whatever you may be facing, remember that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in you—bringing renewal, restoration, and strength.

As we celebrate together, may we carry the message of the risen Christ into our homes, our community, and our daily lives—living as witnesses of His love, grace, and victory.

EASTER SUNDAY REFLECTIONS

As we draw near to the glorious celebration of Easter Sunday, our hearts turn with anticipation toward the promise of the Resurrection.

We have walked the journey through reflection, sacrifice, and remembrance—and now we stand on the threshold of joy. The cross reminds us of Christ’s great love, and the empty tomb assures us that His victory is near.

In these sacred moments of ожидания (expectation), let us prepare our hearts to receive the fullness of Easter’s promise: that life triumphs over death, hope rises from despair, and God’s redeeming power makes all things new.

May we enter this holy time with renewed faith, deeper gratitude, and a spirit ready to rejoice. The dawn is coming. The stone will be rolled away. The light of Christ will shine brighter than ever before.

Let us gather as one church family, ready to celebrate the risen Lord and the new life He brings to each of us.

In Loving Memory of Deacon George Whitfield Best
January 20, 1935 – August 18, 2025

With hearts full of gratitude, we remember George Whitfield Best, a life marked by faithful service to God, church, and community. From the age of ten, Whitfield found his spiritual home at St. Philip’s African Orthodox Church, where he served faithfully on the Altar for eight decades—throughout his life and into his 90th year. His devotion to Sunday worship, mentorship of new leaders, and the tangible contributions he made to the church building itself are lasting testaments to his deep faith and commitment.

Whitfield’s life extended far beyond the walls of the church. He served with pride in the Canadian Armed Forces, dedicated his wisdom and energy to community boards such as the Whitney Credit Union, SPCA Sydney, Nova Scotia Parole Board, and Habitat for Humanity, and was a founding member of Menelik Hall—all grounded in his belief that service to others is an expression of love.

His gentle strength, generous spirit, and tireless commitment enriched not only his church family but all corners of our community. Though he has passed from this life, his legacy of faith-led service and kindness continues in the lives he touched.

May his soul rest in the peace of Christ, and may his memory remain a blessing to all who knew him.

In Loving Memory of Patriarch Vincent M. Waterman
🕊️ January 19, 1926 – January 22, 2019

Today we pause to honor and give thanks to God for the life of Patriarch Vincent Waterman, a faithful servant who walked humbly with the Lord and shepherded many with wisdom, compassion, and grace.

For decades, he answered God’s call through devoted ministry, steadfast leadership, and a life anchored in prayer and service. His faith was not only spoken from the pulpit but lived daily through love for family, care for community, and an unwavering trust in God’s promises.

Though he is no longer with us in body, we rejoice in the assurance that he has entered into eternal rest, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” His legacy continues in the lives he touched and the faith he nurtured.

May his soul rest in the peace of Christ and may his memory remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

NEW YEAR’S DAY MESSAGE

On this New Year’s Day, we give thanks to God for the gift of new beginnings. As we step into a new year, we do so with faith, expectation, and trust in the plans God has prepared for us.

This is a season to grow—deeper in prayer, stronger in faith, and more intentional in our walk with Christ. Together, as a church family, we are called to continue building a community rooted in love, unity, and service, bearing one another’s burdens and celebrating one another’s joys.

God’s purposes for our lives and for His Church are still unfolding. Even when the path ahead is not fully clear, we move forward with confidence, knowing that the Lord goes before us, guiding our steps and shaping our future according to His perfect will.

May this new year be filled with spiritual growth, renewed commitment, and a deeper sense of God’s presence among us. Let us walk forward together, trusting that what God has begun, He will faithfully bring to completion.

NEW YEAR MESSAGE TO THE CONGREGATION

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, we pause with grateful hearts to give thanks to God for His faithfulness and for each of you who make St. Philip’s African Orthodox Church a living and loving community of faith.

We extend our sincere appreciation to every member who has supported this church through prayer, service, generosity, and steadfast commitment over the years. Your dedication—seen and unseen—has strengthened our ministry, sustained our mission, and allowed the light of Christ to shine through this sacred place.

As we enter the new year, we do so with hope and expectation, trusting God to guide our steps and renew our strength. May this season be one of spiritual growth, deeper fellowship, and continued service rooted in love and unity.

CHRISTMAS EVE MESSAGE

On this holy night, we gather our hearts in quiet wonder and joyful expectation as we remember the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In the stillness of Bethlehem, God entered the world in humility, love, and light—offering hope to all humanity.

Christmas Eve invites us to pause, to reflect, and to open our hearts once again to the miracle of the Incarnation. The Christ Child comes to dwell among us, to bring peace where there is unrest, comfort where there is sorrow, and light where there is darkness.

As you prepare to celebrate this sacred night, may your homes be filled with prayer, your hearts with gratitude, and your spirits with the joy of knowing that God is with us.

CHRISTMAS SEASON MESSAGE

As we enter the holy season of Christmas, we rejoice in the great mystery of God’s love revealed in the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In humility and hope, Christ came into the world to dwell among us—bringing light into darkness, peace into troubled hearts, and salvation to all.

During this sacred season, we give thanks for the faith that unites us as a church family and for the grace that continues to sustain our community. May the joy of Christ’s Nativity renew our spirits, strengthen our bonds with one another, and inspire us to live out His love through compassion, generosity, and service.

Let us prepare our hearts with prayer, gratitude, and reflection, remembering that the miracle of Christmas is not only a moment in history, but a living promise of God’s presence with us today.
