What an amazing summer we had hosting the KIM (Kindness in Motion) Project. This saw 5 young ladies (from different areas of the Sussex region, different schools, different backgrounds) learn new skills (such as food safety), find out about the resources in their community and grow a love for volunteerism. They hosted a babysitting course (and were certified), prepared and served at Sage Thyme Senior Lunch and Learn, ran the "Dignity." initiative and performed random acts of kindness throughout our community, just to name a few activities. There was lots of fun, bonding times as well. It ended with serving a meal to their families and an opportunity to attend camp for a week. They are ready to start their high school year with more confidence with transferrable skills, deeper appreciation for their community, new friends and a love for serving others. Special thanks to the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada for generously funding this project!

⚠️ SCAM AWARENESS – PLEASE BE DILIGENT ⚠️
Someone we know recently received registered mail delivered by Purolator that required a signature upon delivery. Inside was a form requesting money, and at first glance, it appeared legitimate.
After looking more closely, there were several red flags, including spelling errors and questionable wording. We contacted the Canada Border Services Agency directly, and they confirmed that this was, in fact, a scam. We were advised to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
I’m sharing this because this is exactly how people can potentially lose money. Receiving something by registered mail and being required to sign for it can make it feel official and urgent. Unfortunately, that may cause someone to panic and send money before taking the time to verify whether the request is legitimate.
Please be diligent. Read everything carefully, look for red flags, and never allow a sense of urgency or fear to pressure you into sending money.
If something doesn’t seem right, stop, think, take your time, and contact the organization directly using independently verified contact information.
A few extra minutes of checking could prevent someone from losing their hard-earned money. Please share so others are aware. ❤️

⚠️ Be Alert for Potential Phone Scams

There have been reports of local residents receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be Rogers sales representatives that may not be legitimate.

The majority of these calls involve attempts to sell or upgrade smartphones and phone plans at very lucrative rates. While receiving sales calls like this is not uncommon, the concerning part is the amount of personal information the representatives are attempting to obtain.

As a precaution, never provide private information to an unknown source.

Please be aware that these types of scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Scammers can use spoofing technology to make it appear on caller ID that the phone number matches, or is coming directly from, an actual business.

If you receive a call like this and have concerns:
• Politely ask for the representative’s identification information and the exact details of the promotion being offered.
• A legitimate representative should have no issue providing this information and will often provide a phone number or email address for follow-up once their identity has been verified.
• Call or email the company directly to confirm whether the sales offer is legitimate before providing any personal information.

Taking a few extra steps to verify who you are speaking with can help protect your personal information.
