Few days ago, I was having a conversation with my husband about what I thought marriage would be like.
Honestly, I used to think that every night, I would cuddle my husband so tightly, and he would cuddle me just as tightly, and we would sleep like that until morning. ๐
I never knew that this only really happens in the movies! Because the few times we actually tried it, I wasn't comfortable at all. I couldn't even sleep. And my husband couldn't either. ๐
Why am I sharing this?
You that is married, learn to manage the expectations and fantasies you had about marriage when reality looks different.
Some of the things we fantasised about before marriage may not work in our actual marriage. And that's okay!
Sometimes, facing the reality of your marriage will give you peace.
Not everything we've imagined must happen exactly the way we've imagined it.
Some things can stay in our head as beautiful fantasies, while we embrace what actually works for us and our spouses.
Because if we keep forcing something that doesn't fit the dynamics of our marriage, we may frustrate yourselves, frustrate our spouses, and eventually crash emotionally.
For example, couples' dates are not for every couple.
Some couples love going out together, dressing up and having dinner somewhere beautiful. Others would rather stay at home, eat, gist, watch a movie and enjoy each other's company.
And that's perfectly fine!
Understand what works for you and your husband.
If going out isn't your thing, have your couples' date at home. ๐
Set the table, dress nicely, you can even been in your pj's ๐) put on some music, prepare or order something you both enjoy, put the phones away and make it fun!
Marriage is not about copying another couple's marriage.
Build the marriage that works for the two of you.
Sometimes, peace comes when you stop chasing the marriage you imagined and start appreciating the beautiful marriage you are actually building. โ๏ธ
Do you know your marriage dynamic?
