HIS HOLINESS ABUNE BASILIOS'S PASTORAL MESSAGE ON THE FEAST OF NATIVITY OF OUR GOD AND LORD JESUS CHRIST
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, One God. Amen.
“For behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.” (Luke 2:10–11)
Dearly beloved Christians, both at home and abroad, and to all Eritreans in general, we congratulate you and extend to you all our heartfelt greetings on the occasion of this sacred and radiant feast of the Nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Glory and praise be to the Most High God, who has not dealt with us according to our sins, but according to His great mercy, His abundant compassion, and His boundless long-suffering love.
Today we celebrate the joy of the birth of Our God, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is one of the Three Persons in the Holy Trinity, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the father, who was, who is, and who lives forever—who descended from heaven and was born of the Virgin Mary and became man.
Behold/Indeed, because of the transgression of the first man, Adam, God—our God, Jesus Christ—took flesh from the body of the Virgin Mary, soul from her soul, and became fully human without separation from His divinity. From Adam until the birth of Christ, humanity lived under the bo***ge of sin, suffering, condemnation and death, awaiting the fulfillment of God’s promise of life.
As it says: “when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4), Our Lord, Who is the giver of grace, Jesus Christ was born in a manger, at Bethlehem, and by His birth He poured forth inexhaustible goodness upon the world.
