New Joy Church

New Joy Church Join us every Sunday at 3 pm at People's Church! FOLLOWING JESUS TOGETHER

We are a community devoted to Following Jesus Together.

At the center of why we gather is Jesus. Some say he was a good teacher, or a wise prophet...or at least an unusually decent man. However, Jesus insisted he was more...

Unlike anyone else in history, Jesus claimed to be “the way” to God and eternal life, and as the Son of God, he backed these claims through his life, death and resurrection. He alone had what it takes to take care of the gaps, deb

ts and darkness that otherwise separate people from God. His life story has made it possible for us to join in God’s story, extending an open invitation to all who would choose to believe in and follow him! As a community, we have chosen to say “yes” to this ultimate journey - to following Jesus, and doing so together. Following Jesus means:
..growing in relationship with God;
..being transformed by his love and truth;
..led and empowered by the Holy Spirit;
..overflowing in joyful, missional, Kingdom living. Together means:
..all this happens most fully in community.

We're taking our Sunday Service outside the box! Outside the walls of our church, that is.

Jesus: "Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now..." Matthew 6. As we look at the trees, flowers, birds, and insects, we'll be turning our attention to what He's saying to us and what He wants to show us.

Please join us this Sunday at Green Timbers Urban Forest Park (see maps on post) at 3:00 pm. We won't be at People's Church this Sunday!

Outside the Box: (idiomatic) beyond the bounds of convention

What does it look like to worship God at church? Do church services have to fit a certain formula?

And what keeps us inside the box when we know we've been called to share His love to those outside the walls of our church?

This summer, we'll try to tackle some of these questions and, together, try to follow Jesus outside the boxes we like to stay in. Hope you'll come and worship Jesus with us!

For Sunday, July 13, we're going outside the church and worshiping Jesus at Green Timbers Park in Surrey. We'll post our exact meeting spot soon!

From the Practicing the Way - Fasting intro:

“What if we are missing out on one of Jesus’ most essential practices?

Fasting is going without food for a set amount of time to awaken our body and soul to our deep hunger and need for God. It’s one of the most powerful — and neglected — of all of Jesus’ practices.”

What if we began 2024 with a renewed hunger for God that could be jumpstarted through fasting? Join us as we discover (or rediscover) how fasting gives us the opportunity to offer ourselves to God, to grow in holiness, to amplify our prayers and to help us stand with the poor. Aeri kicks off the series this Sunday.

What words of wisdom did Paul, as a mentor, pass on to his younger apprentice Timothy? What pastoral and fatherly guidance did he feel it was necessary to give to this young leader? Let’s explore what God could be saying to our church in Surrey as we listen in on what encouragement Paul gave to the pastor of a church in Ephesus. The context may be different, but the truths remain for us to follow. Join us as Aeri continues this series on 1 and 2 Timothy!

There was a season of church, post-covid, where open spaces felt hollow, and echoes in the halls carried undertones.
It’s ok, we all remember it. We can talk about it. And we can be uncomfortable with it 🤲🏻 but let out a little exhale because God has been good to us.

One summer day, as Sunday service was starting, a sister 👩🏻 in our community stood at the entrance and wondered, is this the welcome home we’d want for those that are searching for Jesus? She did what she knew how to do. What she knew she would want. She grabbed a table. Printed some pretty signs. And made coffee. It was her way of saying, “there are signs of life here.” A home is not empty when there’s a pot of coffee.

So… Coffee isn’t just a thing a church does. It’s a gesture of welcome. It’s code for “your kind can be comfortable here” 😉 because who doesn’t love caffeine?

Coffee is for the volunteers that need a wake up before they serve on a Sunday. Coffee is for the student who’s been up all night. Coffee is for the friend you bring that needs something to distract from the awkward hello’s. Coffee is for those passing through who need something warm and familiar.
Serving through coffee doesn’t come without heart 💕☕️ It’s a thing of Jesus. Coffee is coffee, but the heart is life. And the good news is, you don’t even have to know how to make it.

We hope this backstory rings true to you too. And we hope to continue passing on this welcome. See you at the coffee table 🫰🏻 let us know if you want to lend a hand.

Our welcomed friend and guest Aaron White has been spending his weekend with our men at the Men’s Retreat, and we can’t wait to hear the stories and testimonies!
We’re so lucky for his consistent partnership and discerned words for this church. We’ve seen God’s glimmers of promise through the Yes’s and prayers of brothers like Aaron. Thank you Jesus for the word you have for us today! 🙌🏻
