Summerland United Church Celebrate Faith, Seek Justice and Serve Others in a Loving Community
Our Minister: Rev. Anne Ellis

Service at 9:30 am every Sunday
in person and on Zoom

Who We Are
Summerland United is a community of people who are trying to live our lives in the way of Jesus. For us, Jesus is a window into the heart of the Holy Mystery, which is at the centre of creation. We are theologically progressive as we challenge old assumptions and seek to understand Jesus' message in today's world. We take the bible seriously, but not literally. We are committed to socia

l justice and caring for others both in our neighbourhood and around the world. We are an open, and open-minded community that values diversity. People of every age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ability or faith background are welcome!

Tonight! Monday Supper hosts local legends Allan Crossley and Larry Crawford at the Stone Church. Larry Crawford plays saxophones, flutes and clarinet, in a performance career spanning decades - including playing on the original Sesame Street, touring with Liberace, Sammy Davis Jr. and Harry Belafonte, and five years touring with the NORAD bands. In addition to multi-instrumentalist, this Okanagan icon is a prolific composer and arranger. Allan Crossley is a piano player, arranger and leader who spent his career as a music educator, leading an award-winning high school jazz programme. In addition to playing keys, he writes as the lyricist for Larry's compositions. The two have produced two CD's of original vocal jazz tunes.

Hosted by Summerland United and sponsored by St Stephen Anglican, Monday Supper is the free community meal we cook and offer to everybody on the last Monday of every month, 5:30pm to 7pm. We are at the stone church on Prairie Valley Rd. This month we’re serving up lasagna, and we always have a veg/an option.

Monday Supper invites you to lasagna and music on May 25! Tempered Strings is our featured musical group on May 25. This dynamic trio of Debi Johnson, Bob Farmer and Glen O'Neil, plays a variety of instruments and is bringing back grassroots music to new audiences. They will have you tapping your toes and singing along while they perform tunes that touch the heart. Debi says: “We are having so much fun preparing for this evening - with bluegrass, Celtic, swing, folk - all kinds - even a locally written song about the Naramata tugboat.” With Celtic harp, Accordion, Bass, Mandolin, Guitar, Banjo, Cittern and 3-part harmonies, they will delight your ears - although perhaps they will not play all of these at the same time..!

Tempered Strings will perform as part of The Farmhouse Kitchen Collective - an 8 piece folk group - at the Scottish Festival in Penticton on July 4th.

Monday Supper is the free community meal we cook and offer to everybody on the last Monday of every month, 5:30pm to 7pm. We are at the stone church on Prairie Valley Rd.

“There is a deep well inside me. And in it dwells God. Sometimes I am there too. But more often stones and grit block the well, and God is buried beneath and must be dug out again.”

-- Etty Hillesum, 20th century Jewish Mystic.

Join Rev. Anne Ruth Ellis for a deep and gentle conversation about her discovery of the profound gift of repentance and forgiveness through the practice of T’Shuvah.

Wednesday, May 6th

7:00 - 8:30 PM EST / 6:00 - 7:30 PM CST

5:00 - 6:30 PM MST / 4:00 - 5:30 PM PST

During this 90 min session, Anne will share her story of how a Christian minister came to this Jewish practice, create space for personal sharing and lead a spiritual practice from her tradition. This session is ideal for anyone interested in spiritual practices from different traditions, the mysticism of an indwelling God, those struggling with grief, and those willing to engage the vulnerability of their shadow selves.
