Five questions from Gideon's transformational journey that can help us discover our true self and live out our calling.

1. How would an angel of God greet you & describe you? Would it match the character you’re currently playing? Would it match the way you see yourself?

2. Instead of wondering where God is & why isn’t God doing anything - ask - What is God calling me to do about this? What strengths, gifts & abilities has God given me to do something about this? To be the change I want to see in the world.

3. How can I let go of my self image & be open to seeing myself through God’s eyes?

4. How can I act on what I’m sensing from God? What’s the next step - even a baby step - that I can take?

5. Instead of asking, Do I need more, try asking, Do I need less? Instead of, Do I have enough, ask, Do I have the right resources, attitude…and the right people in my life for God’s purposes? Focus on quality over quantity.

On Sunday, Troy explored how to engage difficult texts in the Bible. He unpacked three common filters that colour and distort our interpretive lens, hindering us from interacting with Scripture in open and fresh ways. The three filters are:

1. presentism,
2. self-centrism,
3. Bible-centrism.

And he offered six questions that we can ask, as we're reading and studying the Bible, to help us engage the passages more meaningfully. The questions are:

1. What lenses am I bringing to - and imposing upon - the text?
2. What did the people in this time & culture understand, assume, believe, fear & value?
3. How is God meeting them where they are at and moving them closer to justice and equality, to the ethics, values and life in the KOG?
4. Who is this good news for?
5. How does this point to Christ?
6. How do I read this through the lens of Jesus - his life, example & teachings?
