Can't say it any better than The OM. In brief, jealousy, envy and greed are all on par in my view of abhorrence on the emo spectrum. They all lead to destruction in one way or another; in relationships of any nature.

Here goes:

Our lives are an exercise in facing challenges. We dream the grandest of dreams as youngsters only to discover that we must cultivate copious inner strength and determination in order to meet our goals. Our hard work does not always yield the results we expect. And it is when we find ourselves frustrated by the trials we face or unable to meet our own expectations that we are most apt to take notice of those individuals who appear to accomplish great feats effortlessly.

Some people’s lives seem to magically fall into place. We can see the blessings they have received and the ease with which they have attained their desires, their unwavering confidence, and their wealth. But we can never see the whole story of their lives, so it is important to refrain from passing judgment or becoming envious.

Throughout our lives, we glimpse only the outer hull of others’ life experiences, so it’s tempting to presuppose that the abundance they enjoy is the result of luck rather than diligent effort. In a small number of cases, our assumptions may mirror reality. But very few people “have it easy.” Everyone must overcome difficulties, and everyone has been granted a distinctive set of talents with which to do so.

An individual who is highly gifted may nonetheless have to practice industriously and correct themselves repeatedly in order to cultivate their talents. Their myriad accomplishments are more likely the result of ongoing hard work and sacrifice. You, no doubt, have natural abilities that you have nurtured, and your gifts may be the very reason you strive as tirelessly as you do. Yet others often see only the outcome of your efforts and not the efforts themselves.

Our intellects, our hearts, and our souls are constantly being tested by the universe. Life will create new challenges for you to face each time you prove yourself capable of overcoming the challenges of the past. The tests you will be given will be as unique as you are. If you focus on doing the best you can and making use of the blessings you have been granted, the outcome of your efforts will be a joyous reflection of your dedication.

OH YES, Grasshopper,

The evolution of all spiritual life, includes 3 absolutes:

You will love.
You will be loved.
And #1 will eventually be far more important to you than #2.

LOVE,
The Universe
P.S. That’s when an old soul, becomes an old soul.

From really far out in space, do you know what your sun looks like?
A star.

And from any distance, do you know what you look like?
A superstar.

Love you like crazy glue,
The Universe

P.S. Sometimes you make these things so easy to write, Starshine!

WOW - St. Anthony working overtime today. I had lost my cell phone and a precious vial of holy oil over the weekend; when shuffling props, sets, etc. for debut of my play, Uisce Beatha Blues. And a few prayers later - BEHOLD....each were found in different spots. Then I returned to my desk to find this short message from the TUT:

No one loses anything, RL, that doesn’t eventually come back.
Love, grins, and horseshoes -
The Universe

P.S. And usually, RL, it comes back bigger, better, and zippier.

PS> from RL: The nature of my play is around the loss of sacred water and the resultant disenfranchised grief experienced by those who lost it.

You can't make this stuff up.

So as I am personally going through some high stress with a play that is debuting this weekend, and am working with my sixth leading lady (a story worthy of a great bottle of merlot and a stiff breeze), I felt this missive from the OM was worthy of sharing:

We know more about stress now than at any other time in history — how it lives in the body, how deeply it can affect our health, and the many ways it can influence the nervous system. The question now is: How do we begin to gently work with — and heal from — whatever stress we might be carrying?

While it’s true that we can’t change what’s out of our control, we can begin to change the way we meet ourselves from this moment on. Healing often starts with something simple, yet profound like turning back toward our own needs. So often, our first instinct is to push them aside. We work through lunch. We keep going when we’re running on empty. And we override our body’s desire for rest and rejuvenation. However, when we stop and listen, new possibilities exist. (FOR ME, I LOVE TO WALK LABYRINTHS - Remember, it's a method of finding one's way/way-finding; NOT a maze which is created to confuse or cause one to get lost)

Thank goodness we have the support of each other and inspiring teachers who have devoted their lives to inner work and the discovery of wisdom. They bring with them holistic resources and timeless practices — each benefiting us in different ways. And when we turn to them, we can begin to tend to the places within us that feel weary, guarded, or stretched too thin. And little by little, we create more space for ease and a steadier sense of emotional harmony.

PS. Many communities host labyrinth walks for peace on May 2 at 1pm. Try one if you haven't before - it makes great medicine.

Ho Boy - a great reminder from the OM:

We all have defense mechanisms that we’ve developed over time, often without being aware of them. In times of trouble, the behaviors that have worked to get us past challenges with the least amount of pain are the ones we repeat; even when a part of us knows they no longer work. Such behavior is a natural response from our mental and physical aspects.

But because we are spiritual beings as well, we have the ability to rise above habits and patterns to see the truth that lies beyond. And from that moment on, we can make choices that allow us to work directly from that place of truth within us.

Most of our defense mechanisms were developed in childhood — starting with the moment we realized crying would get us the attention we craved. Passive aggressive ways of communicating may have allowed us to get what we needed without being scolded, punished, or laughed at, so we learned to avoid being direct and honest. Some of us may have taken refuge in the lives of others, discovering ways to direct attention away from ourselves entirely. Throwing ourselves into projects or rescuing others from themselves can be effective ways to avoid dealing with our own issues. And when people are truly helped by our actions, we get the added bonus of feeling heroic. But while defenses can keep away the things we fear, they can also work to keep our good from us.

When we can be honest with ourselves about what we truly desire, then we can connect our desires to the creative power of the spirit within us. Knowing that we are one with the energy of the universe allows us to release any need for defense. Trusting that power, we know that we are exactly where we are meant to be and that challenges bring gifts of growth and experience. When we can put down arms raised in defense, then we are free to use our hands, minds, hearts, and spirits to mold and shape our abundant energy to create and live our lives.

The more one loves for no reason at all, the easier their life, the more reasons they're given, and the happier their times.

Love rocks,
The Universe

P.S. Not to mention, … the louder their laughter, the sweeter their smile, the faster their wheels, the bigger their deals, the cleaner their grill, and the less they'll have to spend on aspirin for various and sundry reasons.
