Our congregation was founded in 1894 by a group of families who came to settle in the area. Matthew Lutheran Church is known as a mother church for Lutheranism in Western Canada. From the wor

k of the first pastors here, at least 90 congregations were founded in Alberta and BC. The congregation grew with the community and now has 1100 baptized and 800 communicant members from various backgrounds and home towns. We also operate a K-9 school where we offer tuition free, Christ centered education for anyone in the community or abroad. Matthew Lutheran Church is a congregation of Lutheran Church-Canada (LCC), Canada's Confessional Lutheran church body that holds an unconditional commitment to the Holy Scriptures as the inspired and infallible Word of God, and to the Lutheran Confessions contained in the Book of Concord as the true and faithful exposition of the Word of God. Globally, we are a member of the International Lutheran Council (ILC), a worldwide association of Confessional Lutheran church bodies dedicated to the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, grounded in the authority of Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.

𝙎𝙐𝙉𝘿𝘼𝙔 𝘿𝙄𝙑𝙄𝙉𝙀 𝙎𝙀𝙍𝙑𝙄𝘾𝙀

All are welcome to join us for the Divine Service every Sunday where The Lord's Supper (Holy Communion) is celebrated weekly. If it is your first time communing at our altar, please speak with one of the pastors beforehand. We are a liturgical parish that follows the historic Divine Service settings of the church as found in Lutheran Service Book, rotating Settings I through IV seasonally. From September to June, we also have a Praise Team that plays every second and fourth Sunday of the month at the 10:30am service, playing some contemporary songs during the distribution of Holy Communion, and during pre and post service music.
