Today marks the 25th year of International Overdose Awareness Day. 25 years of remembering lives lost, supporting those left grieving, and calling attention to a crisis that continues to impact families and communities around the world. The need for awareness, compassion, prevention, and hope is still great.
Today is a day to remember, support, raise awareness, and pray for all those affected by overdose.
“Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.”
Psalm 10:17 (NLT)
Together, we pray:
Gracious God, today we remember those whose lives have been lost to overdose and hold their families and friends in prayer. Bring comfort to those who grieve, strength to those responding to crisis, and hope to those struggling with substance use.
Give us hearts of compassion and the courage to see those who are hurting, to speak up, to support recovery, and to help protect those who are vulnerable. May we never stop remembering, never stop raising awareness, and never stop believing that lives can be changed.
Amen.
