100 Words of Hope: Stillness in a Loud World

When we wake up each day we enter into the din
Our home, our places, our nation.

It deafens us at every turn, on every platform, exponentially by the din of other’s imposed upon us.

It is overwhelming.

What are we to do? Will covering our ears allow escape?
Nay, the answer lies in the sitting and the listening.

Listening for that which cannot, at first, be heard.
Sitting until the din is hushed

When all we can hear is the still small voice
Which whispers words of love and hope and reassurance

That “I AM” is with us always.

On this day of Remembrance, O God, we give thanks:
For peacekeepers and pacifists; for those who served on the front lines, and those who protest and march; for those who volunteered and those who waited anxiously at home; for those who hoped that things would get better, and those who could not stand by and wait.
We give thanks for those who believed that the world could be a better place.
We remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, trusting that others could and would carry the torch.
We give thanks for those who were once enemies who have become friends and allies.

We are having a Gathering at Green's Harbour United Church on Saturday, October 05, 2024. Our theme will be " Be still and know that I am God". We are looking forward to seeing you there. Please look for more information in the next couple of weeks.

East District UCW met on Saturday, May 25 for their Annual General Meeting at Shoal Harbour. Our special guest was our National UCW President, Barbara Davison from Calgary. It was great to get together to meet old friends and make new ones. The fellowship was wonderful and the food was delicious! Thank you to everyone who made the day so successful.

God of all time,
help us enter the New Year quietly,
thoughtful of who we are to ourselves and to others,
mindful that our steps make an impact
and our words carry power.
May we walk gently.
May we speak only after we have listened well.
Creator of all life,
help us enter the New Year reverently,
aware that you have endowed
every creature and plant, every person and habitat
with beauty and purpose.
May we regard the world with tenderness.
May we honour rather than destroy.

Lover of all souls,
help us enter the New Year joyfully,
willing to laugh and dance and dream,
remembering our many gifts with thanks

Happy Thanksgiving! It is that time of the year when plans are being made for the fall with your UCW groups. Here at Wesley we, with our Community of Faith, are making plans for our Christmas dinner with the in/out patients of the Waterford Hospital. It marks the start of our Christmas. If you would like to share what your group is doing, please send me a note/pictures and I will post it here.
