Welcome to the Samatha-Vipassana Meditation Centre. Our vision is to provide spiritual guidance based on the original teachings of Lord Buddha, to the local community in Edmonton, the general public of Canada, as well as the world at large, to cultivate and develop morality, concentration and wisdom within our society, irrespective of one’s origin, faith, religion or ethnicity. We offer a range of

services including meditation programs, sutta discussions, Sunday School for children, special retreats, religious services at homes and daily Buddhist sermons. These services are offered in both English and Sinhala languages and are freely available to everyone. The Samatha-Vipassana Meditation Centre is an institute maintained by the Alberta Buddhist Vihara Association (ABVA), an organization established with the objective of providing community an understanding of Buddhism and its practice, particularly of the Theravada tradition. ABVA was founded in 1983 as a community group and then registered in 1994 as a charitable organization in Alberta, Canada.

භාග්‍යවතුන් වහන්සේගේ අනන්ත වූ බුදුගුණ සිහිපත් කරමින්, උන්වහන්සේ උදෙසා කෙරෙන "විශේෂ සම්බුද්ධ වන්දනාව" ට සහභාගී වී, සිතේ සැනසීම හා ආශිර්වාදය ලබාගන්නා ලෙස ඔබ සැමට අප සැදැහැ සිතින් ඇරයුම් කර සිටිමු.

එදිනට පැමිණෙන සියලුම බැතිමතුන් උදෙසා "වෙසක් දන්සලක්" ද විහාරස්ථාන පරිශ්‍රයේදී පැවැත්වේ.

වැඩසටහන පිළිබඳ සියලු විස්තර ඉහත පළ කර ඇති පෝස්ටරය මඟින් ලබාගත හැක.

As part of our Vesak Week observances, we are pleased to share the concluding program organized by the temple for the sacred Vesak Full Moon Poya Day.

A special Sambuddha Vandana will be held in devotion and reflection on the noble virtues of the Supreme Buddha. We warmly invite everyone to participate in this serene and meaningful evening of blessings and contemplation.

Refreshments (Dansala) will be offered to all attendees.

මහා කාරුණික තථාගත බුදු පියාණන් වහන්සේගේ අනන්ත වූ බුදුගුණ සිහිපත් කරමින්, ආධ්‍යාත්මික සුවය සහ පහන් සංවේග පිණිස වෙසක් සතිය නිමිත්තෙන් සංවිධානය කරනු ලබන "බුද්ධානුස්සති" භාවනා සහ වන්දනා වැඩසටහනට ඔබ සැමට ශ්‍රද්ධා පූර්වකව ආරාධනා කර සිටිමු.

🩸 ABVA Blood Donation 2026 - Successfully Completed 🩸

With immense gratitude and joy, we are happy to share that the ABVA Blood Donation Program 2026 was successfully held on 9 May 2026 at Whitemud Crossing, Edmonton.

This meaningful community service initiative brought together compassionate donors, volunteers, supporters, and well-wishers who united with one shared purpose — to help save lives through blood donation. Every donation made has the potential to bring hope and healing to those in need.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to:

🌼 All the blood donors who generously came forward to donate
🌼 The volunteers and organizers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes
🌼 Everyone who supported and promoted the program in various ways
🌼 The families and community members who provided refreshments and encouragement to the donors

ධර්ම කරුණු පිළිබඳව පවතින ගැටලු නිරවුල් කරගනිමින්, ධර්මානුකූලව වඩාත් සමබර ජීවිතයක් ගත කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය මගපෙන්වීම ලබාගැනීම මෙහි ප්‍රධාන අරමුණයි. දහමින් දිවි මඟ සාරවත් කර ගැනීමට උනන්දුවෙන් පසුවන ඔබ සැමට මෙයට සහභාගී වන ලෙස අපි ඉතා ගෞරවයෙන් ඇරයුම් කර සිටිමු.

We are delighted to share beautiful glimpses from our Dhamma School Sinhala & Hindu New Year (Avurudu) celebration!

Our children spent a joyful day reconnecting with their roots—immersed in Sri Lankan traditions, culture, and values. From savoring delicious traditional food to enjoying vibrant dance and singing performances, and taking part in exciting Avurudu games, it was a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories.

This celebration was a meaningful opportunity for our young ones to embrace their heritage and stay deeply connected to Sri Lankan culture in a fun and engaging way ❤️

Much merit and heartfelt gratitude to our Bhantes, Dhamma School Principal, coordinators, dedicated teachers, and supportive parents for making this beautiful event possible.
