Alberta Insight Meditation Centre (AIM Centre) provides spiritual guidance based on the original teachings of Lord Buddha to cultivate and develop morality

Welcome to the Samatha-Vipassana Meditation Centre. Our vision is to provide spiritual guidance based on the original teachings of Lord Buddha, to the local community in Edmonton, the general public of Canada, as well as the world at large, to cultivate and develop morality, concentration and wisdom within our society, irrespective of one’s origin, faith, religion or ethnicity. We offer a range of

services including meditation programs, sutta discussions, Sunday School for children, special retreats, religious services at homes and daily Buddhist sermons. These services are offered in both English and Sinhala languages and are freely available to everyone. The Samatha-Vipassana Meditation Centre is an institute maintained by the Alberta Buddhist Vihara Association (ABVA), an organization established with the objective of providing community an understanding of Buddhism and its practice, particularly of the Theravada tradition. ABVA was founded in 1983 as a community group and then registered in 1994 as a charitable organization in Alberta, Canada.

☸️ In the Footsteps of Arahat Mahinda ☸️

Poson commemorates the arrival of Arahat Mahinda Thera in Sri Lanka and the establishment of the Buddha Sasana on the island. It is a time to reflect on the profound gift of the Dhamma and to express gratitude to those who helped preserve and share the Buddha’s teachings.

To mark this sacred occasion, Alberta Insight Meditation Centre will be hosting a special Poson devotional song program (Bhakthi Gee) and a Dansala (free food offering).

We warmly invite everyone to join us for an evening of devotion, reflection, and fellowship as we pay tribute to Arahat Mahinda Thera through devotional songs and commemorate this significant event in Buddhist history.

Poson Sil Program 2026 ( පොසොන් සීල වැඩසටහන- 2026)

This special one-day program will be conducted in both English and Sinhala, and will include: guided meditation, Dhamma talks based on important suttas, chanting, and opportunities for discussion and reflection. Reflections from Our Vesak Dhamma Discussion Session

We are pleased to share some highlights from our recent Dhamma discussion session held during the Vesak season.

The session provided a wonderful opportunity for participants to explore the Dhamma, ask questions, and engage in meaningful discussions on applying the Buddha’s teachings in daily life. It was an inspiring evening of learning, reflection, and spiritual fellowship, and we are grateful to everyone who joined us.

We also want to thank the families of Somi & Prasanth Wijeyeratne, Prasanga & Mangala Medagedara, and Sirima & Ranjan Kumburutenna for generously offering snacks for the participants. Their kindness and generosity were greatly appreciated.

☸️ Vesak Sil Program 2026 (වෙසක් සීල වැඩසටහන - 2026) ☸️

We are pleased to share some photos from the Vesak Sil Program held on May 23, 2026, at the Alberta Insight Meditation Centre.

It was a precious day of meditation, Dhamma discussions, chanting, reflection, and spiritual practice conducted in both English and Sinhala under the guidance of the venerable monks.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to all the devotees who generously supported the program by offering lunch dāna and refreshments for the Bhantes and participants. We also thank all volunteers and participants whose dedication helped make the day meaningful and memorable.

🌿 Youth Dhamma Discussion with Ajahn Vinitha 🌿

As parents, we all hope our children will grow into confident, compassionate, resilient, and responsible adults. In today's fast-paced world, young people often face challenges related to stress, relationships, studies, career choices, and personal well-being.

We warmly invite the youth in our community to participate in a special Youth Dhamma Discussion with Ajahn Vinitha, offering a unique opportunity to receive guidance rooted in the Buddha's teachings and connect with other young Buddhists in a supportive environment.

Ajahn Vinitha was ordained and trained under the Most Venerable Ajahn Sumedho and served the Western community for over 20 years at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in England before arriving at the Alberta Insight Meditation Centre.

During this interactive session, participants will have the opportunity to:

✅ Ask questions about life, studies, relationships, and personal challenges
✅ Learn practical Dhamma teachings for everyday life
✅ Develop mindfulness, emotional resilience, and inner confidence
✅ Strengthen positive values such as kindness, gratitude, and responsibility
✅ Connect with like-minded friends in a welcoming Buddhist community

This is a rare opportunity for youth to engage openly with an experienced monk in an informal discussion setting.

A special Sambuddha Vandana will be held in devotion and reflection on the noble virtues of the Supreme Buddha. We warmly invite everyone to participate in this serene and meaningful evening of blessings and contemplation.

මහා කාරුණික තථාගත බුදු පියාණන් වහන්සේගේ අනන්ත වූ බුදුගුණ සිහිපත් කරමින්, ආධ්‍යාත්මික සුවය සහ පහන් සංවේග පිණිස වෙසක් සතිය නිමිත්තෙන් සංවිධානය කරනු ලබන "බුද්ධානුස්සති" භාවනා සහ වන්දනා වැඩසටහනට ඔබ සැමට ශ්‍රද්ධා පූර්වකව ආරාධනා කර සිටිමු.

🩸 ABVA Blood Donation 2026 - Successfully Completed 🩸

With immense gratitude and joy, we are happy to share that the ABVA Blood Donation Program 2026 was successfully held on 9 May 2026 at Whitemud Crossing, Edmonton.

This meaningful community service initiative brought together compassionate donors, volunteers, supporters, and well-wishers who united with one shared purpose — to help save lives through blood donation. Every donation made has the potential to bring hope and healing to those in need.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to:

🌼 The volunteers and organizers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes
