Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my hometown. I have been so blessed to spend my childhood here and return in my adult years. Now, I hope to give back to the community that gave me so much.

This fall I am running for town council in my hometown of Sicamous. The reason for this post is because many of you following this page know me from writing and speaking. You are spread out across Canada. So I have decided to start a second page designated to my campaign. I don’t want to assume followers from Windsor, Ontario are interested in small town politics. Haha.

It will be an uphill climb to start from scratch but I am believing for the best.

My truck enjoyed the weekend so much it refused to come home. Despite my best efforts and some firm words, after 20kms of listening to him clunk and grind about it, I agreed to let him to stay. But only for a few nights! I even bribed him with the new CV Joint he’s been begging for.

So grateful for my Dad who had zero hesitation about loading up his truck to help rescue mine. I learnt a few things, enjoyed our time together and photo 4 was probably when I said “Dad, are we done yet? You promised me ice cream!”

PS. If your knuckles aren’t bleeding after working on a vehicle you may not know what you’re doing or you’re not pulling hard enough…or you have an impact wrench.

My dad and I don’t share similar tastes in music. I love lots of music. He loves The Gaither Gospel Hour. 😂

Growing up can be weird. As you get older, your parents move from superheroes who know everything to adults you don’t always see eye-to-eye with. It’s weird. It’s weird to develop adult relationships with them and have different preferences. It’s weird to see the world differently than the person you believed could carry it on their back. Sometimes those differences are small. Like music.

We still don’t agree on what constitutes good music. But tonight, watching him enjoy his music while the crowd on TV worshipped Jesus, I saw superhero all over again.

We might not see eye-to-eye on everything, but the fact that his musical preference-regardless of the form, sound, or delivery-is worship, reminded me of one thing: his heart is always set on Jesus. What more could I ask for? I couldn’t be more grateful for the man I call Dad, or Pops, or Ern-Dog, or Abo.

Sometimes when I felt like I didn't know how to pray, I think I was just scared to. Scared to just be honest, as if God can't handle my questions or frustration. It's okay to be raw, honest, broken, and come un-done before the LORD. That's what Joshua did in Joshua Chapter 7.

It's okay to be honest with God. The Bible doesn't shy away from honest moments of pain and confusion where people ask loaded questions of God. That's exactly what we see in Joshua Chapter 7. Life doesn't always make sense. If we're honest, sometimes God doesn't make sense. It's comforting to know we aren't alone, and that icons from the Bible had similar moments. Moments that the Bible captures honestly, transparently, and relatably.
