Are you looking for a super cool way and place to serve this summer? We are looking for volunteers to help out with our Summer Daycamps here at Heartland!

"Kids will get an opportunity to experience art, dance, music and sports. Special theme days like water day and crazy hair day are the favourite parts of the week. There will be biblical teaching for the kids during our chapel times each day, not to mention a team of incredible staff with whom to hang out."

If you want to be a part of a super fun team of leaders, you should head to the registration link below for a way to sign up to help out! There is a huge variety of camps to help out with, so help with one or help with them all, that is totally up to you!

Austin Norlin

Austin was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, but in 2016 he moved to Edmonton to attend Vanguard College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology. Austin first joined the Heartland team back in 2018 where he was the High school events coordinator, but he moved back to Calgary to work there for a year and then came back in 2020 to oversee the Campus ministries department of our youth. In 2021 he became a part of the team that oversees The Fold and officially became a pastor in 2022!

Austin enjoys watching, playing and coaching sports, playing and listening to music, and hanging out with his friends and family. What he enjoys most about his job is being able to do life with youth and young adults. He is always down to go for coffee and have conversations on anything that you may be going through or may be questioning.

A while back we put out some questions on what you would like to see on our page and a big one was a book study. SO ...!

We are going to be launching a book study on Gary Thomas's book "Sacred Pathways" which goes through nine different spiritual temperaments/worship styles that we as Christians can have. God is creative and has made each of us differently so each of our preferences will vary.

We have created a reading timeline as well as a discussion day where we can get together to chat about what we've read throughout the week. We will be using our space at Remedy Café in Sherwood Park to host these discussion times as to allow for a large space (and you can grab a free drink on us too)!

You will be in charge of getting the book for yourself and doing the readings, but if you don't want to read but want to still be a part of the discussions feel free to come on out! 📖

Ash Wednesday

Today is what is known as Ash Wednesday in the church calendar. This day is the beginning of something called Lent.

WHAT IS LENT?

Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.

It is on this day that we challenge you to begin a season of fasting and praying. We would encourage you to fast from food in a way that could work for you. Or, if giving up your meals is not an option we would encourage you to try to fast from SOMETHING for these next 40 days, whether it be social media, sugar, tv, video games, etc. We want you to challenge yourself during this time!
