Good Friday - Veneration of the Holy Shroud (“Plaschenytsia”)

There was a solemn procession around the church, lead by a parish member carrying the Crucifix. In the procession, the elders of the parish carry the Holy Shroud, the priest carries the Holy Eucharist and the altar boys carry lighted candles and the wooden clappers. This procession is symbolic of the journey from Christ’s Crucifixion on Calvary to His Tomb.
The clappers- The harsh wood-on-wood sound is thought to recall the hammering of the nails into the Cross or the rattling of the Cross being carried to Golgotha.

Христос Хрещається! У Річці Йордані!

Today the congregation celebrated Theophany, or the Feast of the Jordan, remembering the baptism of Christ in the River Jordan. Fr. Rendy blessed the water, and parishioners were invited to take the blessed water home.

Sanctification and Protection: The primary use is to bring God's blessing into the home, protecting the dwelling and its inhabitants from evil spirits, danger, and hostile forces.

Healing and Renewal: The water is believed to have the power to heal illnesses and physical infirmities. Faithful individuals often drink a small amount daily, typically in the morning on an empty stomach, to strengthen the powers of the soul and body.

Spiritual Aid: It is used in times of need, such as during temptation, family difficulties, before a journey, or prior to important events like examinations, as a reminder of faith and a source of consolation and strength.

Connection to Baptism: Theophany water serves as a physical reminder of one's own baptism and the spiritual renewal it offers, connecting the "home church" with the parish church.
