Happy Union Day!
Today marks a celebration for the United Church of Canada!
On June 10, 1925, Congregationalists, (70% of) Presbyterians, Methodists, and the General Council of Union Churches joined together in union.
May the church continue forth, fulfilling its call to be the body of Christ.

I received a call from a friend, who was commenting on the fact that our bubbles are getting smaller, and that that they were hearing more often that people are "cancelling Christmas."

They asked me what I'd say, if I were told that I had to cancel Christmas this year.

What I said was, "It is impossible to cancel Christmas. Christmas is celebrated each time a disciple of Jesus lives love. Christmas isn't an event. Christmas *is*."

Christmas is.

(Thanks for the cool graphic, Fey!)

On this day, we honor and remember those who served (and continue to serve) their country in the armed services. We pray for those who served, and those who paid the ultimate price in the pursuit of peace and freedom.

John McCrae, "In Flanders Fields"

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Our apologies for the video malfunction this morning. The audio continues, but the video is scrambled. I believe this may be the fault of the winter storm that is raging.
Let us pray that the problem does not persist in the coming weeks.
Stay warm.
Stay safe.

God be with you.

The angel of God who was going before the Israelite army moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from in front of them and took its place behind them. It came between the army of Egypt and the army of Israel. And so the cloud was there with the darkness, and it lit up the night; on...
