Some thoughts revisited from February of 2017 that are still valid this year in 2024 enJOY!

JOY in Our Life: It is thought, by some people, that going to "church" is a boring, joyless experience. I suppose that can be true but when it comes down to it, it all depends on what you put into the experience. You do get what you think you will get. In our service on Feb. 12 we focussed on love and availing ourselves of all the benefits of meeting together as part of the family of God. We worshipped, sang, prayed, and had a delicious meal together. We celebrated family, unity, love and freedom. Hey, the pastor even wore a great big, floppy hat covered with hearts and handed out heart shaped cookies and cheerful valentine cards. I believe all in attendance would attest to having had a JOYful time together. JOY comes from the heart and is present wherever you are if you have it within you to give. An organization used to have a slogan that went something like, "Blood - it's in you to give." How about a slogan such as, "JOY - it's in you to give! Give generously!"

JOY in Our Life is boosted when we are thankful, grateful and appreciative. 'tis the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. Did you know that your JOY reservoir levels become even more FULL when you are thankFULL, grateFULL and appreciative?

When you sit down to enJOY what you consider to be your Thanksgiving meal, make it your aim to not just leave the table physically full, but spiritually FULL. JOYFULL with double LLs When you ask God to "give this day our daily bread," do not just ask for your food, but ask for the spiritual food God gives you. Ask for large helpings of the fruits given by Holy Spirit. Receive generous helpings of fruits known as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control.

Hey, ask for the whole orchard! Tend your orchard daily so your harvest and your JOY reservoirs will be FULL, not just your belly!

Even if you have nobody to share the holiday occasion with, Happy JOYfull Thanksgiving which you can share with everyone around you every day. I invite any readers from any country to celebrate Thanksgiving virtually with me.

JOY in Our Life in Each Season

Sept 22 marked the final day of summer. I have found a way to enJOY the seasons as they seemingly zip by, by keeping decorated artificial pine trees in my home. Sept. 23 marks the first day of autumn, which can be so picturesque but which can take quite some time for its beauty to arrive. While I wait, my summer tree, decked out with butterflies, a few birds and yes, even a red Christmas ball keeps me focussed on JOY. The butterflies remind me to keep looking up, way up to my creator, and to remember that I am constantly growing and being transformed season by season of my life into who God wants me to be. In a few weeks my tree will be changed, transformed into a glorious fall leaves tree to enJOY.

Some of those seasons bring pain, changes, and surprises we never anticipated. I believe God also sends us helpers to help us develop and fly right!

Everyone's life looks different. Even the tree in our church, decorated with birds and flowers, will soon take on a different look for Thanksgiving. Whatever season of your life, surround yourself with images and sounds of JOY to keep your JOY reservoirs full. Share your JOY with everyone

Joy In Our Garden Lights up Our Life Even on Dull Days!

Even on dull, overcast days, flowers are spots of JOY 😊 that insist on brightening up our spirits. Their presence helps to top up our JOY reservoirs even as we drink deeply from them.

Today I noticed this bunch of flowers picturing a cross reminded me of God's goodness to me. Jesus said He is the light. It is as if God is shouting out, "Rise and shine, have a blessed day!" If you listen, you can hear Him saying the same thing to you! And just now I am singing the song to you, "Rise and shine and give God the glory glory. Rise and shine and give God the glory glory. Rise and shine and give God the glory glory, children of the Lord!"

Regardless of what outward circumstances seem to be dictacting, declare JOY!

JOY in Our Garden -Dropping Petals of Joy

I have found that your words can be beautiful petals to uplift and encourage others. Words carry discouragement or encouragement, tears or laughter., ugliness or beauty, sorrow or joy. It is within us to create ugliness or beauty. What we create reflects who we are and can profoundly affect others.

We all walk a path through life. Some walk through long, dreary ugly paths. It is wonderful to brighten their path with word petals. Petals often come with a heavenly fragrance as well. These many blooms line the walkway to my front door. At times the sight and fragrances reach out and hug the spirit and the soul of those walking there.

Be known as a person who cultivates and spreads along the path of your life, spilling over into the paths of others, beautiful petals of encouragement, cheer, love, humour, comfort, gratitude, appreciation, thankfulness, encouragement, and peace. May you and your words bring to the world a picture of beauty with the lasting fragrance of JOY.

JOY In Our Garden That We Did Not Plant!

Yes, it is true! This year time got away from us and we had no time to plant a garden nor to tend the plants that were already there. However, God planted for us. So far this year it has been an absolute JOY to be blessed by a spectacular carpet of forget-me-nots, lots of irises, hostas, a wide variety of wild flowers, and absolutely gorgeous flowering bushes. Even the Queen Anne's Lace has been majestically steller. Not only did God plant everything, He kept it all watered!

May this current bounty of Black Eyed Susan flowers bring brightness and sunshiney JOY to your heart, special delivery, directly from God. Be on the alert. More bundles of J😊Y are coming. In fact, J 😊 Y is ready for your pleasure. Keep your eyes open!

JOY in Our Life can come covered in Snow!

You really have to watch what you think and say. Your thoughts can become words and flavour your attitude. I really have been working on it, but in my vocabulary the letters S N O W are sometimes synonymous with not so nice words which I do not use. On one side of the spectrum I get excited to see the beauty that snow often brings. It shimmers and sparkles like fields of diamonds in the sunshine. Breathtaking in the trees and the fields beside our home. Then there are the not so nice aspects of snow.

My mind cringes when someone mentions in the summer that the snow is coming. On July 31 I found myself telling a friend to not use that "s" word! He services lawn mowers and tractors. Here he was, on that day, moving the grass equipment out of his shop and preparing to get his snow removing equipment brought in! Yes, on July 31!

Farmers used to say the amount of snow you can expect to receive is indicated by the height the corn grows. This picture shows me standing in the field of corn beside the house we call home. Yikes!!! It is over six and even seven feet tall and is still growing. It may be a corny thought but it looks like there will be lots of opportunity in snow season to snuggle with the dogs and cats by the fireplace, eating popcorn!

When life throws you lemons, make lemonade. When life throws you snow, shape it into pOpcOrn balls. Allergic to snOw, like some folks are allergic to cOrn? No problem. Relace that O in snOw with the O from jOy and see your whole attitude and perspective change! When the snowstorms and hailstorms of life come, remember to focus on the shimmering diamonds around you and hey, pop the corn and flavour it with JOY!!
