March 14, 2026 - what an evening was had by all. Irish music filled the church hall at Shawville United Church for this very successful fundraiser. Shawville 4-H square dancers showed off their talents, along with many talented singers and musicians. Everyone, whether you were Irish or not, enjoyed themselves and the church hall looked fantastic with all the decorations. Thank to Wayne Park for taking these videos and I apologize for the delay in getting them uploaded to the website, we had a few minor problems in the process. Do enjoy. Glenda Baker

Killings at Tumbler Ridge, BC.
Our hearts are heavy as we learn of the tragic events in Tumbler Ridge. Nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, Tumbler Ridge is about 660 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, near the border with Alberta, and home to about 2,400 people, according to the 2021 census, this tragedy changed the lives of the peopoe in Tumbler Ridge forever.

Police report that nine people were killed and at least 25 others injured in a devastating shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Two additional deaths at a nearby home are believed to be connected. The suspect was later found deceased from a self-inflicted injury. The community was placed under lockdown for several hours as officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded and secured the area.

This small and close-knit community, is now facing unimaginable grief. As families await further information and mourn the loss of loved ones, we hold them in our prayers.

Shawville United Church extends our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the school, to the families of the victims, and to the entire community of Tumbler Ridge.

May God’s comfort surround those who grieve, strength uphold those who are injured and recovering, and peace — however distant it may feel right now — gently find its way into every broken heart.
