HANNAH – A WOMAN WHO PRAYED
Over 1000 years ago the Bible tells us of a woman named Hannah. Hannah lived in a time when even God’s people Israel, were evil & far from God. Most were praying to idols & even God’s house the tabernacle was a corrupt place with priests that were bad too. But Hannah stayed pure & followed God. It was Hannah’s desire to have a child. It was such a strong desire that one year she went to the tabernacle to pray. The Bible says that”In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to God weeping bitterly” & made a vow that when she got a son, she would give him back to the Lord.”(1:10-11) When she left , she HAD FAITH, that God would answer her prayer.
Hannah did 3 things that we must do when we pray. First she made sure her heart was right with God. Then she brought her requests to God. She went to the one that she knew would help her. And she prayed believing God would answer her prayer.
The very next year she gave birth to a son, Samuel. God had answered her prayer. But Hannah never forgot her promise to God & when Samuel was about 3 yrs old, Hannah took him to the house of the Lord to”abide there forever.” She didn’t waver in her promise, but in her heart she knew that God had a far greater purpose for her child than she did .After taking her son to live at the tabernacle, she actually prayed one of the most beautiful prayers of THANKSGIVING in the Bible.. (1 Samuel2:1-10) She knew that God had answered her prayer & she gave Him praise. Daily Hannah prayed for her son & in doing this she learned that you can never out give God. God blessed her with 5 more children! Her prayer that day marked a turning point in history. Samuel became a prophet appointed by God. He was the one who anointed David as king. Samuel was a man who constantly prayed for God’s people and because of him God’s word was again heard in Israel & people were turning to God.
And IT ALL BEGAN WITH ONE WOMAN’S PRAYER!
What could be accomplished if we too prayed with our whole heart believing that God hears & answers prayer. God invites us to come to Him & bring our heart cries, our pain, our longings and our brokenness. He will never turn us away or have a deaf ear to our struggles . He is fully trustworthy, fully loving, fully kind.
