"Depaving is a form of restoration. It is intentionally putting to death something that is old and void of life in order to replace it with something new and full of fresh life," writes David Schurmann. Schurmann shares on the impact of depaving in our hearts being similar to the process of change naturally. His article is an invitation to allow the light of Christ to awaken parts of our inner selves that may be buried.

Making Conversation: Poem by Sarah Emtage

In the beginning was the Word,
and he spoke to the darkness
and turned it to light.

He stretched out our lungs,
and crafted our throats.
He detailed our tongues and our lips.
He breathed in our nostrils the breath of his life,
so that we in return
could breathe meaning in sounds,
to sink into ears,
and strike on the drums,
to be heard and to bear
a spark of the life that he gave.

Have you considered what you can do to be more inclusive of people living with disabilities in your community? “Inclusion isn’t just something nice a church does. It’s something we need, something Jesus commands his people to do,” writes Kristen Unrau in her article, “Befriending is Better Than Fixing.”

We are are challenged to think of new and practical ways of loving our neighbours in a way that breaks through barriers-structural or societal. You may be able to identify where you can take the risk of engaging in the kind of love that is risky but Christ-like too.

"The portrayal of human suffering both physical and spiritual in this novel is realistic, and I recommend Shepherd of Princes as a stimulating and challenging read for those willing to engage with deep and revealing topics," writes reviewer, Elizabeth Duarte.

Duarte reviews Michael Bonikowsky’s new book, Shepherds of Princes, a fictional tale set in a dystopia that gives us a glimpse of what life might be like for those who are disabled in a world that may not know how to consider them.

Pulling from his own experience as a caregiver to men and women with developmental disabilities, Duarte shares that "Bonikowsky invites us to see echoes of our own world within the narrative."

Ever felt like the ability to be faithful was becoming an uphill climb? If yes, you are not alone in this sentiment. Lara d’Entremont, Writer unpacks the relief we find in knowing that true faithfulness is through Christ. "Faithfulness is not accomplished by our own strength and muscle," shares d"Entremont. The call we answer to be faithful in service to God and others is done "in community, for community."

Yet, beauty is woven throughout its pages as a sign of hope and restoration," writes Josh Tiessen In his latest Finer Strokes column, Tiessen reminds us that there is more to life than our Western focus on productivity and beauty, as expressed creatively, plays an instrumental role in revealing the value of our lives through God's eyes.

The Journey Through: Poem by Ashley Heather Larnder

I ran as fast as I could
but I never lost it.
I climbed as high as I could
and I never overcame it.
I buried it as deep as I could
but the grave haunted me.

I longed for freedom

He began whispering
to journey through it.
Stop moving away
and instead move in;
journey through the pain
and enter into death.

For some of us, it is easier to give forgiveness to others than to accept it for ourselves. In her article, "Where Forgiveness Fits in a Journey Through Hurt," Juliana VanderSpek helps us understand the link between walking in forgiveness and maintaining a healthy relationship with God and others. "Forgiveness requires accepting both our own reality and the circumstances of others, regardless of fairness, and then making a conscious decision to let go," shares VanderSpek.

Our friendships, relationships and life connections could benefit from some more forgiveness.

Tis' the season for chaos in our kitchens? Not quite but as Adam Kline shares, this Christmas season we have the opportunity to grow in our ability to forgive and reconcile much like the characters of Emmy award-winning show, "The Bear". The hit show, now in its third season, examines themes of family, toxicity in work environments and the reminder for the audience that everyone has a story. "At any given time, in any given room, the people around us are all going through something," says Kline.

When was the last time you challenged yourself to step into the unfamiliar? Learning the realities of the foreigners in our lives draws us closer to God, much like it did the Israelites in Scripture."We need experiences of being an outsider to remind us that our knowledge and ability can fail—the world is so much larger than our own bubbles," shares Andrea Nwabuike.

Highlighting the lessons learned on a trip to San Paulo, Nwabuike reminds us gently that we can be intentional about leaving our comfort zones to grow in compassion for others.

Heart Procedures: Poem by Daniel Suter

Pierce the pericardium,
this double-layered membrane
that holds my heart together,
this skin-bag
in which my core
seems to have been
forgotten
like broccoli in a shopping bag
two weeks later now rotting

Renovate all four chambers,
repaint the muscle walls
with bright colours
and if you need to
bring in a whole crew
to remodel every corner
