Charity is more than giving. It's choosing to care.

On this International Day of Charity, we're reminded that every act of generosity can change lives.

Stellah's story began with joining a Savings Group receiving training from Tearfund's partners in Kenya.

Starting with next to nothing, Stellah and her family saved enough to grow a garden close to home.

Then, she started borrowing from her group. She used her loan to buy a single cow's head—a local delicacy. Very quickly, Stellah's business grew. With Stellah's extra income, they were able to build a new house

Because of your support, women like Stellah are starting businesses, growing food despite drought, and earning income for their families. Stellah is helping lead community solutions that will benefit generations to come!

What if hundreds of thousands of Christians prayed together for a world free from poverty and injustice? 🙏

From September 6–13, you’re invited to join Christians around the world for Tearfund’s Global Week of Prayer.

Together, we’ll pray for our global neighbours facing poverty and injustice, including the impacts of conflict, climate change and gender inequality. And you don’t have to figure out where to start.

We’ve created free prayer resources to help you, your family or your church pray with purpose throughout the week.

Because injustice is loud, but Jesus’ love is louder.

At 22, Niftalem had no plan. He'd finished high school but couldn't afford college, and with no work in his village in Ethiopia, migrating to a big city for casual labor felt like his only option.

"I was hopeless and wandering here and there," he recalls.

Then he joined a nature-based restoration project aimed towards helping youth build their lives. He planted tree seedlings for a steady wage, joined a Village Savings and Loan group, and was trained in basic entrepreneurship skills.

Niftalem’s life changed–economically, emotionally, and socially. Having a steady income and mentorship and peer support through the program restored his confidence! After earning enough, Niftalem could afford to enroll in a Marketing diploma, going to school on the weekends.

While still in school, he started his own business raising 20 layer chickens for eggs.

"My dream of upgrading my education has been materialized," he says. Today, Niftalem’s personal savings have grown to about $460 USD— a figure he calls unimaginable just a few years ago.

Most importantly, he can now support his younger brothers’ school expenses, shifting his role within the family from dependent to contributor.

Niftalem is no longer planning to leave his village. He's planning to grow in it — expanding his poultry business and becoming a leader for the youth in his community.

His story proves that when young people are trusted, equipped with skills, and have peer and mentor support, they become agents of change instead of beneficiaries of aid.

This is a story of leadership and teamwork! Because of the initiative of Niftalem’s VSLA group, less youth are moving away due to job stress, instead growing their skills and staying in the community.

“There’s no hope in those countries.”

That’s simply not true.

Hope is everywhere.

It is in the laughter of children.
In families working toward a better future.
In communities supporting one another.
In people choosing courage, faith, and joy, even when life is hard.

Hope was never absent. We just needed to look closer.

The earth has a way of reminding us that God is generous.

A field that produces. A harvest that sustains. New growth where the ground once seemed empty.

Psalm 85:12 points us back to the source of every good gift. God provides, the land responds, and life begins to flourish.

In a world marked by scarcity and injustice, this verse invites us to trust in God’s goodness and to imagine communities where people and creation can thrive together.
