As we gather on the Sunday Before the Elevation of the Holy Cross, the Church prepares our hearts for the great feast of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of our Lord.

Today’s Gospel reminds us of God’s immeasurable love for the world and the salvation offered through Christ’s sacrifice upon the Cross.

“God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son...” (John 3:16)

May we approach the Feast of the Cross with faith, humility, and gratitude, finding strength and hope in the sign of our salvation.

✨ Sunday, September 6, 2026 – 14th Sunday of Matthew ✨

On this blessed day, our St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church family gathered in faith and reflection to commemorate the 14th Sunday of Matthew, giving thanks for God’s enduring love and guidance. 🙏

“For with God nothing will be impossible.” ... Luke 1:37

We extend heartfelt gratitude to Rev. Father George for his steady leadership, warm pastoral care, and devotion to our community. 💒❤️😃

🇺🇸 Never Forget 9/11 🇨🇦

From here in Toronto, our hearts at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church still ache for the lives lost on that terrible day. We pray for every family who lost loved ones, and for all the innocent souls taken in that horrific attack carried out by Al‑Qaeda, a violent extremist organization responsible for immense suffering and loss of life.

We also honour the heroes who ran toward danger: firefighters, police officers, and first responders who gave everything to save others. Their courage remains a light in the darkness of that day.

Today we also remember Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, the only house of worship destroyed on 9/11, and we give thanks for its resurrection as the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine. Its rebuilding stands as a powerful symbol of faith enduring through tragedy, and of hope rising again.

Even now, thinking about that day hurts the soul. But we stand united in remembrance.
