La Madre Sanadora
As the name connotes healing, it is a pastoral service that offers counseling support to people by means of dance workshops or therapy.
La Madre Sanadora started as a project in January 2019 with a vision to bring about Wholeness to Humanity and its integrity with the Cosmic Universe. She seeks as her mission to bring about healing to humanity’s cosmic relationship, bringing about healing in the psyche - individual and collective. Conscious of the need for harmony, peace and love, she brings this healing into reality by providing exercises and workshops through dance and music appreciation.
La Madre Sanadora puts faith at the core of its mission, tracing back its history in Manila with Grupo Filipino Salsa in 2005 at the Asian Social Institute through the pioneering works of Ismael Ares Andres, a pastoral sociologist who looks at the dance as a means to awaken the consciousness of the people to their innate God-given giftedness. Through dance workshops and festivities, this divine gift works mysteriously bringing healing and transformation to individuals and groups. In 2009, the mission continues animating Salsa Sanadora in Canada, commencing with the Rueda workshops and Salsa dancing at the Riverlanding in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Each summer, Ares’ commitment continue with the mission by offering free dance workshops and rueda dances on Thursdays, the Rueda by the River - SK. However, starting the year 2019, Ares presents this profound commitment with explicit reference to this mission through the establishment of La Madre Sanadora which aims to present dances or dance workshops that puts emphasis on conveying the mystical/spiritual components of the dance, interacting with participants and the audience to fully understand not only the dance but also themselves, how the dance affects each of them. The rueda workshops and dances were held in abeyance until a stable core is established and a community to host it is found. Either we task ourselves to build this community or we look for church communities or non-profit socially-oriented groups to adapt this program (a minimum of 3 year pastoral program proposal is ready for those who would ask for it).
Definitely, expenses will entail in holding these workshops and dances so that we don't discriminate in favor of those who could afford because definitely, evangelization is for everyone and not only for those who could afford. This is the reason La Madre Sanadora is not only a project but also a socio-pastoral enterprise to help realize its mission.
