Today the Holy Catholic Church rejoices in one of the great Marian solemnities of the liturgical year: the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven, body and soul.

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
— Luke 1:46–47

Mary, the Immaculate Mother of God, who carried Jesus Christ within her womb, stood faithfully beneath His Cross, and remained united to Him in perfect love, was preserved from the corruption of the grave and brought into the glory of Heaven.

The Assumption is not only a celebration of what God has done for Mary. It is also a sign of Christian hope for each of us. In Our Blessed Mother we see the fulfillment of the promise of resurrection and the destiny for which every human person was created: eternal life with God.

Through every joy, sorrow, uncertainty and cross of this life, may we remain faithful until the day when Christ calls us home.

Saint Peter, teach us to trust Jesus even when we are weak.
Saint Paul, teach us to proclaim the Gospel with courage and love.

our hearts be humble,
