DAILY LENTEN READINGS: Friday April 3, 2026: Good Friday
Read Luke 23:46 Trusting God has a backup plan.
Once again we have arrived at an important inflection point which is also a critical teaching moment. In this face-off between good and evil, Jesus surrenders to a higher authority and the possibility of a third option. He trusts that God has a backup plan. The fundamental truth is this; we have two choices in our approach to life. We can choose the ways of God which is the way of Love, because God is Love. (1John 3:13,14; 4:16). Or the ways of the world which is the way of Pilate, the way of power, and politics, money and influence and the capacity to control, to have influence over the affairs of humankind. Surrendering, giving up our need to control is a difficult thing: it is the ultimate act of generosity. Jesus is declaring that he has nothing more to give.
Reflect on your willingness to give up any need to control, even some control and trust in God’s love, God’s ability to provide a third option.
• Pray that Jesus’ example of surrendering, to God’s ability and readiness to provide a third option, will inspire you to yield to God’s love.

DAILY LENTEN READINGS: Thursday April 2, 2026: Holy Thursday

📖 Read John 13:5 Servant leadership on display.

Jesus never misses a teaching moment. His task from the beginning was to teach his contemporaries a new way to understand God, a new way to relate to each other and within groups and communities. It was not to be like those in authority, expecting places of high honour and historical entitlements. It was to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:6-8). Here we see that it was not only to walk humbly with our God but also among our fellow citizens.. Generous love, abundant compassion, overflowing mercy and grace and now an authentic humility. These are the marks and the sign posts on the way to becoming fully human and fully alive, to living a better version of ourselves, with a warm and generous heart.
Reflect on whether or not there is something that is beneath your dignity to do for another, a colleague perhaps.

🙏 Pray that you will be given insight into what it means to be a “servant leader”. And the courage to undertake, today, the carrying out of any menial task that may be required.

CALLING ALL GRACE-WESTMINSTER FRIENDS OF BROADWAY BBID....
DO YOU THINK WE CAN SEND A TEAM TO THIS EVENT TO SPRUCE UP THE NEIGHBOURHOOD?
IF SO, LEAVE YOUR NAME AT THE CHURCH OFFICE, AND WE'LL PLAN TO GET TOGETHER AND HELP OUT OUR LOCAL BBID ON APRIL 22ND!

Bring Your Own Broom (BYOB)

Join us for BYOB: Bring Your Own Broom on Wednesday, April 22, a community clean-up event celebrating Earth Day in the Broadway District!

Volunteers, merchants, and neighbours are invited to roll up their sleeves and help tidy up our shared spaces from sidewalks and alleys to parking lots and planters. Whether you sweep your storefront, pick up litter, help remove graffiti, or adopt a nearby alley for the afternoon, every contribution makes a difference. This is a chance to connect with your community, take pride in the neighbourhood, and help keep Broadway welcoming, vibrant, and beautiful.

After the clean-up, volunteers are invited to gather for a small thank-you celebration at 5 Corners Cafe to celebrate the impact we made together.

Shout out to 5 Corners Cafe and Ground Yoga for providing free coffee coupons, yoga passes and for hosting the after-party!

DAILY LENTEN READINGS: Wednesday April 1, 2026

📖 Read Matthew 26: 15-16 Authenticity tested by vulnerability.

Think back on some of the many important human qualities that Jesus lifted up by means of a teaching or a personal action. Two of the most difficult are authenticity, and vulnerability. Many voices are at work to tear at the fabric of our authenticity. So also, our willingness to be vulnerable bears many scars of hurt and betrayal. Nevertheless, these are two of the most important human qualities, that when combined with love, become the mortar that binds the building blocks of a relationship and a community together and hold them together.

🙏 Pray that disappointment and betrayal of trust may not so scar you that you may be
open to forgiveness and new opportunities to love.
