Join us on Sunday, June 14th at 11am for 'Living From a Place of Surrender" presented by our fellow Unitarian, Erin Gudmundson.

In this reflective and personal presentation, Erin introduces the teachings of Michael A. Singer, author of The Untethered Soul. In the past five years, more Muslims have been killed in targeted hate crimes in Canada than in any other G7 country, contradicting the tolerance and inclusion that is often proclaimed by the nation. In 2017, six lives were lost during the Quebec mosque shooting. In 2020, a Toronto mosque volunteer was brutally killed while serving his community. On June 6th, 2021, an act of islamophobia took the lives of four family members, devastating the community of London, Ontario and the world at large. It is the 5th year anniversary of their murder. In honour of all these victims, I am posting our 8 Principles as a reminder of our call to act.

We, the member congregations of the Canadian Unitarian Council, covenant to affirm and promote:

-The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
-Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations;
-Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
-A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
-The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
-The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
-Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
-Individual and communal action that accountably dismantles racism and systemic barriers to full inclusion in ourselves and our institutions-

This month's theme is Activism.

Micro activism ... teaches us that exactly who we are and what we bring to the table is precisely the kind of activism the world
needs.

Join us on Sunday, May 31st at 11am for "Independent News" presented by Nathan Colquhoun.

The Sarnia Journal, Sarnia’s only independent news outlet since 2014, is currently defending itself and its publisher against a $1.5 million defamation lawsuit. At stake is the ability of local independent journalism to hold powerful public institutions accountable without fear of being crushed by expensive strategic lawsuits.

There is a wonderful article in the May 26 edition of the Sarnia Observer about Jessie, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Facebook will not allow me to share the link directly, but I encourage everyone to search out the article about our long-standing member. It is a lovely tribute and well worth the read.
