Feast of Ascension at St. Mary's, 2600 Fulford-Ganges Rd, Fulford on Thursday, May 14th at 3PM.

The Feast of the Ascension marks the end of the period of Christ's post-Resurrection earthly presence with the apostles. This event signifies how Christ's ministry becomes ours as we are now the enfleshed Body of Christ. It is an occasion for renewing our commitment to ministry, grounding ourselves in Creation, and for fellowship with those who make the journey with us.

Join us at St. Mary's for a contemplative Eucharist followed by a reflective walk together around the grounds and good conversation in the graveyard. Bring picnic snacks if you would like.

Enrich Your Spiritual Life Through Praying with Scripture
A Six-Week Program at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Fulford
Experience the sweetness and beauty of the contemplative way of life . . . especially for those of us leading busy lives! Sense the way that God leads us beyond anxiety into inner stillness and peace. Learn how to deepen your relationship with God through praying with Scripture daily using the ancient prayer practice of Lectio Divina.

Rev. Mike Potter will be leading a six-week program teaching and supporting this practice at historic St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Fulford, where one can feel the lingering effect of over 100 years of prayers. It will begin with a half-day workshop from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and will be followed by six weekly follow-up sessions to support and strengthen your daily practice of praying with Scripture.

This program will be offered sometime in late May or early June, the exact dates and times to be determined after consulting with those of you who are interested in participating. There is no cost for the program. To register your interest, please sign up on the signup sheet in the Narthex at All Saints, or contact Mike directly.
For more information, please contact Mike at [email protected] or by phone at 901-230-4997.

Mike was commissioned by Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. to present both Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina workshops. Over the past 20 years, he has led many such workshops and retreats throughout the U.S. in person and globally via Zoom. Mike is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and for eleven years before his retirement last November he served as a hospice chaplain with Methodist Alliance Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee. He currently serves on the pastoral care team of the Anglican Parish of Salt Spring Island.

Theme: Joy returning

Meditation:
Joy after sorrow is different. It is deeper, quieter, more grounded.
Easter joy carries the memory of Good Friday.
Let joy return gently today.

Blessing:
May resurrection joy rise within you,
steady and true. Amen.

The stone is rolled away. The tomb is empty. The world is remade.
Easter does not erase the cross — it transforms it. Death is not denied; it is overcome.
On the coast, new life arrives quietly: buds opening, tides shifting, light lengthening. Resurrection is like that — both sudden and unfolding.
Christ is risen — and nothing is the same.
Today, receive this truth not as concept but as life. Something in you is being raised. Something in the world is being restored.
Alleluia is not just a word. It is a way of living.
Blessing:
Christ is risen — in the breaking of sorrow,
in the mending of hope, in the life that rises again.
Alleluia. Amen.

Good Friday Theme: Love that does not turn away

Meditation:
The cross stands at the centre of the world — not as defeat, but as love refusing to abandon us.
Good Friday is not explained. It is entered.
On the coast, we know weather that cannot be hurried through — storms that must be endured, not solved. So it is with this day.
Stay near the cross. Do not rush past it.
Christ enters suffering fully — not only his own, but ours. No grief is foreign to him. No sorrow is unseen.
Love remains, even here. Especially here.

Prayer:
Crucified Christ, hold the pain of the world in your mercy. Stay with me as I stay with you. Amen.

Maundy Thursday - Love made visible in service:
On this night, love kneels. Christ takes a towel and basin, and the Holy One stoops to wash human feet.
In the Islands and Inlets, water cleanses gently — tide over stone, rain over moss. So Christ’s love moves among us: not forceful, but transforming.
“Love one another,” he says — not as a suggestion, but as a way of life shaped by humility.
Today, let love take form in your hands. Serve quietly. Forgive generously. Stay present.
This is the commandment that carries us through the dark.
Prayer:
Servant Christ, kneel beside me and wash what is weary in me. Teach me to love as you love. Amen.

Holy Week – Waiting in the Dark - Death, Silence, and Hope
Prayer:
Christ of the wounded love,
We keep watch with you.
In grief, remain.
In silence, speak.
In darkness, be light.
We wait for the stone to move,
For life to rise again. Amen.

Tenebrae prayer:
Christ of sorrowful love,
Stay with me
In the gathering dark. Amen.

Archbishop Sarah declared:
"I solemnly commit myself before you to the service of the Church of England, the Anglican Communion and the whole Church of Christ throughout the world, that together we may
proclaim the Gospel of Christ who reconciles us to God and breaks down the walls that divide us."

And the Dean proclaimed:
"Let us greet our newly installed Archbishop."

Canterbury's Cathedral and community welcomes you Archbishop Sarah.
