The Green Burial Society is now offering Certification for Funeral Homes and Haywards was one of the first to apply and be accepted! Congratulations Christie Doyle!
Exciting news from the Green Burial Society of Canada as we are well headed into the long weekend! This is a bit of a long read but I promise it's great ☺️
We are very pleased to officially introduce our new membership category for Funeral Service Providers. This new category allows us to connect with funeral establishments across Canada and certify their green burial best practices, helping families and our community know where they can find reputable funeral professionals who are committed to sustainability and environmentally responsible care.
Today, we have the great pleasure of spotlighting a wonderful supporter of the GBSC, Christie Doyle, Owner and Funeral Director of Haywards Funeral Services on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
As an island funeral home, they understand that community is everything and are committed to contributing to the best future they can. As Christie so beautifully shared, “The walls of this building help us hold and care for our neighbours, friends, teachers, fishermen, farmers, artists, and loved ones.” Christie and her team are honoured to be part of a growing movement toward thoughtful, sustainable practices and look forward to connecting with families who share that same intention.
At the GBSC, we are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our community, the cemeteries, and now funeral providers who are helping us grow the green burial movement across Canada.

In upcoming few weeks, we will be spotlighting both our new members and our longtime loyal members. Please be sure to follow, share, and support their work, which helps us continue to advocate for this important end-of-life option across Canada.
