Since 2014 our Council has been donating $5,000 every 6 months towards a Discretionary Patient Support Fund at the Saint John Regional Hospital. This fund works with the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation and the patient support workers to assist patients with much needed, yet smaller amounts of financial assistance. The fund helps patients to cover medical and travel expenses that require immediate attention. Funds may be required to cover things such as lost wages while receiving treatment or to cover travel costs to receive treatment.

Originally established for oncology patients the scope has recently been extended to include other patients after the hospital identified a growing need. The fund was setup so that it can also receive outside donations.

These donations from our Council are made possible by those who support our Thursday night TV Bingo on Rogers Channel 10.

❤️ We are so thankful to the Knights of Columbus 6595 Father Eugene O’Leary Council for their generous gift of $2500! This major contribution helps bring a better quality of life to our 150 residents at Rocmaura Nursing Home by supporting important recreation programs and other basic needs like welcome baskets with simple care supplies to every new family member who arrives. Look at those smiles on Sarah Draper and Kevin Brown! You both bring so much joy to our home. 😇

Since the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids® launched in 2009 through to November of 2023, Councils have distributed over one million coats to children in Canada and the United States. Our Council is proud to participate in this campaign each year.

This year, in partnership with the Msgr F. M. Lockary Fourth Degree Assembly #616, we donated coats to Glen Falls School and Forest Hills School. Seen here are members Kevin Brown and Gary Pitre presenting coats to Erika Brown, Principal of Forest Hills School.

Donations like this, supporting the youth of our community, are only possible thanks to the support we get from our loyal TV Bingo players on Rogers Cable, Channel 10, Saint John.

Our Council’s continuing support to the community through the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation

In January 2025, the Bubble CPAP Machines purchased through the KOC Father Eugene O’Leary Council #6595 Patient Support Fund arrived at Saint John Regional Hospital. These machines are lifelines for newborns facing Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome (IRDS). They deliver a consistent, gentle flow of air that keeps these fragile infants’ airways open, while the Humidifier adds soothing moisture to ensure their developing lungs stay protected and comfortable. These devices will give vulnerable babies the precious support they need to breathe more easily and begin a healthier start in life.

“In 2024, 44% of babies admitted to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit required respiratory
support - a number that climbs to 92% among those born prematurely. Thanks to your
generosity, we are now able to offer Bubble CPAP: a gentle, cost-effective way to support
newborns as they transition to life outside the womb. On behalf of our entire neonatal team:
thank you! Your support is already making a difference, and we’re just getting started.” – Dr.
Gabriela de Carvalho Nunes, Neonatologist

In addition to providing this vital neonatal care, the fund continues to support cancer patients
in need. Thanks to this generosity, cancer patients facing financial hardship have received
assistance with transportation costs, ensuring they can access life-saving treatments without
additional stress. This ongoing support is making a profound difference in the lives of patients
and their families, offering comfort, stability, and hope when they need it most.
