Lorneville & Seaview Cemeteries

Lorneville & Seaview Cemeteries Our mission is to manage, operate, maintain, and preserve Lorneville & Seaview Cemetery Burial Grounds. Lorneville and Seaview Cemeteries Inc.

is a non profit charity incorporated in August 1982 under the provisions of the N.B. Companies Act (Chapter C-13 of the Revised Statutes, 1973) to operate and maintain two existing community cemeteries at Lorneville, N.B. Lorneville Cemetery has been in existence since 1846. It was established in association with the er****on of a Wesleyan Church Chapel on land donated by Samuel Cunningham Jr., a

native of Kilkeel Parish in County Down Northern Ireland. In 1852 another lot of land directly behind the Church Chapel was given in trust to a committee of community volunteers for the express purposes of a creating a Burial Grounds. The Cemetery has expanded a number of times beyond the boundaries if the original Burial Grounds. Seaview Cemetery is an Anglican Burial Ground that came into existence at about the same time as Lorneville Cemetery when the Church of England Chapel of St. James was erected in 1847. The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Fredericton has authorized Lorneville & Seaview Cemeteries to manage and maintain Seaview Cemetery.

We are messaging you again in case you may have intended to make a donation to Lorneville and Seaview Cemeteries; or perhaps would like to have another (tax deductible) charitable donation for 2021.

If you have already made a donation thank you very much.

There were 8 burials in the cemeteries in 2021:
Lloyd Downey
William Allen
Brenda Rice
Sandra Oliver
Tom MacMurray
Brian Baird
Norman Ferguson
Ralph Maguire

A lot of word was done on our Cemetery flower beds this past year to try and reduce future flower planting and maintenance costs. More emphasis was placed on using perennial flower plants and reducing the number of annuals that need to be purchased, planted and w**ded. Steps were taken to reduce w**d growth in the beds.

Twenty-seven more stone monuments were levelled and straightened in 2021 using volunteers, in-kind equipment donation, and our summer student. Base work was also begun on an ambitious Veteran/Fishermen Memorial commemorating all Armed Forces veterans buried in the cemeteries and those forces personnel and fishermen whose lives were lost. This major capital project will have a targeted fundraising appeal and is expected to be completed in 2022. A public viewing of the proposed Memorial is being held on Saturday, Dec 11, 2021 at the Lorneville Community Center, 10AM to 4PM.

Photographs of this past year's work projects are included on this post.

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Maintenance work in addition to the normal grounds work of mowing, grass trimming and flower planting was undertaken this year by part time staff and volunteers. Thirty stone monuments were straightened and levelled in Lorneville Cemetery and all monuments in both Seaview and the older section or Lorneville Cemetery were washed and cleaned. Many poor turf areas were top dressed by staff and volunteers and then hydroseeded by Maritime Hydroseed. These and other maintenance activities are what individual donations pay for.

A capital project to improve the western section of the Lorneville Cemetery property was also completed in 2020. Rough scrubby land was cleared, grubbed and levelled over to the western boundary line, and a new fence and six new street trees were then installed along Lorneville Road. Funds from Coleson Cove and other corporate sponsors plus volunteer and part time staff effort were used to complete this project. Photographs of this past year's work projects are included on this page.

Thank you for your consideration and support.
